Good evening, Yellow Jacket families,

This is Dr. Bromley with your Yellow Jacket News for the week of August 24.

As a reminder, doors open each morning at 8:00 a.m., and the tardy bell for first period rings at 8:30 a.m. Please continue to make arriving on time and being in class before the bell a priority each day. Being on time is an important part of being ready to learn and making the most of every school day.

During our first week of school, we took time to talk with students about the importance of showing Yellow Jacket P.R.I.D.E. each day. Our teachers continue to reinforce the character traits that are part of the recipe for student success: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Effort. We encourage you to talk with your student about how things are going and how we can work together to support their success. Grades, attendance, and behavior all matter, and strong habits in each of these areas will help keep every student on track for a successful school year. We also look forward to recognizing and celebrating students who consistently demonstrate Yellow Jacket P.R.I.D.E. and make positive choices each day.

Parking passes are on sale for $35 and are required for anyone parking on school grounds. Student drivers should see Mrs. Muhammad for an application and to pay their fee.

Jostens will be on campus during lunches on September 30, but Seniors can order graduation packages in advance by visiting https://bit.ly/BCHSGrad27. If you have any questions about graduation, please see Ms. Hinkle.

The athletic department will be selling year-long and sports season passes this year. The year-long pass grants the holder admission to all home regular-season games. The cost for the pass is $400 for a family of four and $125 for an individual. Sports season pass prices vary by sport. Interested fans can contact Coach James at the school by calling 704-836-9601 or by emailing [email protected].

It’s a busy week for Yellow Jacket Athletics! Volleyball hosts Highland on Tuesday and Stuart Cramer on Thursday, with a road match at Ashbrook on Wednesday. Soccer returns to action Wednesday, hosting Lincolnton at home. Cross Country hits the road Tuesday for a meet at Shelby, and Football closes out the week Friday night on the road at Hunter Huss. Come out and support our Yellow Jackets! 🐝💚💛

BCHS biologists put their learning into action just three days into the school year by helping an athlete prepare for his first half-Ironman triathlon. Students applied their understanding of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins to develop pre- and post-race meal plans, calculating the ideal balance of slow- and fast-burning fuel, stored energy, and amino acids needed for recovery, repair, and rebuilding.

Mark your calendars! Senior Portrait Day for the Bessemer City High School Class of 2027 is Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

These portraits are used for the yearbook, so don't miss your appointment!

Here's what you need to know:
• A $25 sitting fee is required before picture day to receive proofs and select your yearbook pose.
• You'll have the opportunity to take your traditional yearbook photo, plus optional casual poses with a change of clothes if you'd like.
• Appointment times and additional details will be shared 2-3 weeks before picture day.
• A makeup day will be announced after school begins, but some pose and background options may be limited.

This is Dr. Bromley with your Yellow Jacket News for the week of August 17.

We had a wonderful first week back with our Yellow Jackets. As a reminder, doors open each day at 8:00am and the tardy bell for first period rings at 8:30am. Make a plan now to ensure you are arriving and present in class on time each day.

Our students have done a great job with our morning arrival procedures, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we continue working to keep our school safe. Parents are reminded that students can only be picked up and dropped off in the gym lobby parking lot. For safety reasons, no students should be picked up or dropped off anywhere else on campus. Thank you for your help in keeping our students and staff safe.

As a reminder, all students are screened as they enter the building each morning as part of our comprehensive school safety plan. Students should continue bringing a clear book bag and a clear or translucent water bottle each day. Any bag or bottle that does not meet these requirements will need to be left with school administration before entering the building.

Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us yesterday for our inaugural Bessemer City Community Pep Rally! We had a great turnout and loved seeing our students, families, staff, and community come together to celebrate Bessemer City and kick off the new school year. We’re grateful for everyone who helped make the event a success, and we’re already looking forward to making it even bigger and better next year!

In Athletics this week, Volleyball travels to North Gaston on Monday, Lincolnton on Tuesday, and to West Lincoln on Thursday. Yellow Jackets football opens its season at home on Friday at 7:30pm against Pine Lake Prep. Student tickets will be on sale for $5 during lunches on Friday. Exact change is appreciated.

Our Student Leadership Team and Varsity Cheerleaders are proud to share the themes for our student sections at home football games. Our home opener’s theme is Western Wear. We can’t wait to see our Yellow Jackets supporting our team with the loudest student section in North Carolina.
