Nobody chooses bitter. That might be exactly the problem. 🌿🍂
Last week we brought in sweetness…on our plates and in our lives. This week we’re going somewhere most people avoid entirely.
Welcome to The Six Tastes Series, Episode 2: Bitter.
THE PREMISE
Bitter is the most rejected taste in the Western diet. The one we’ve systematically removed from our food for decades. And in Ayurveda, one of the most powerful medicines we have.
Bitter is connected to air and ether (light, cool, and cleansing). It detoxifies the liver, clears Ama and directly cools and reduces excess Pitta and Kapha. Think of it as your body’s internal housekeeping. The taste that clears what the sweet taste leaves behind. 🌿
THE EXPERIMENT
This week bring more bitter in. Both kinds.
🥬 On your plate:
✦ Dark leafy greens — kale, arugula, dandelion, radicchio
✦ Turmeric — in food, in tea, in golden milk
✦ Fenugreek — seeds or leaves
✦ Dark chocolate — the darker the better
✦ Bitter melon — if you’re feeling adventurous 😄
✦ Coffee — before food, not with it
🌿 In your life:
✦ The conversation you’ve been avoiding
✦ The honest feedback you haven’t given
✦ The truth you’ve been softening
✦ The boundary you haven’t set yet
✦ The habit you know isn’t serving you anymore
Bitter in life is also medicine. It clears what’s been accumulating. It creates space for something cleaner.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Notice whether your digestion feels lighter. Notice whether your mind feels clearer. Notice what shifts when you stop avoiding the bitter things — on your plate and in your life. Notice whether seven days of honest bitter medicine creates more space than you expected.
Drop a 🌿 if you’re trying this. And tell me — what bitter thing have you been avoiding?
Seven days. See what happens.
Your body is always talking. This is how you start listening.
