Not another new years resolution -
Not another new years resolution
Happy New Year ! We've all had a year, regardless of how we'd classify it. The same time has passed for each of us, no matter how we embrace the ceremonial marking of it. And this quick little hello message is for my ant-resolution friends-- or maybe for everyone? You get to decid...

Why is play so hard as a grown up? -
Why is "play" so hard as a grown up?
I was in a room full of other parents where nothing unusual was going on at all— just an all day music workshop with my 5 year old. The expert teachers words and ways of showing up humbly displayed some simple and beautiful ways of seeing the world that I wanted to share with you.

What If you paused for just a moment and asked yourself, “what am I feeling right now?”
And held that pause. And took a few breaths. And whatever is their, you let your body feel it for just a few minutes. Happy or sad or something in between, you feel it. You allow yourself to feel what is there.

Mama’s, eat the fruit.
I remember when I was a newer mama and I scrolled upon a reel reminding other mamas out there who once bought fruit for ourselves but now gave it all to our kids that we used to love and consume the fruit too!
That rang so true for me. I noticed how I mostly stopped eating berries and gave them all to my kiddo. 4 years later I still think of that reel and it reminds me— I may have bought these cherries because my son wanted them in the store but I used to buy cherries just because I liked them and maybe I can be the one to eat most of them this time. 🙃

This is for you over-achievers and high functioning friends. Or those of you that are hard on yourself at the end of the day no matter what. Hand to your heart. Take a breath. Repeat to yourself:
“Good job self, for all I did today. Good job self, for what I said no to. I trust there was a reason, even if the reason is a lesson. And even if the lesson could be to see I ask too much of myself.”

A mental exercise for your summer weekend. ❤️
Any questions about this process? How can I help you with it?

What moves you?
Like, what moves you to tears?
I feel an emotional tidal wave swell inside just by walking into a theatre. It often drops past my eyes before the lights even go off and the soundtrack is still just the crowd chattering amongst themselves.
I had a therapist once tell me— you should pay attention to that. Maybe there is something there for you?
I think she meant perhaps I really wanted to be in theatre. I assure you, I do not. At least, I don’t think. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t something to sit with and listen deeply around that. It’s not a desire to be the thing that moves me. It’s the humanity. The passion. The community. The messages. The human spirit. The spiritual spirit.
What moves you? Like, what really inspires you?
I once listened to a Jane Fonda interview and felt my insides light up like a pinball machine.
What moves you? Is it music? A meal? A group of friends? A yoga class? A place? A memory?

Your daily reminder that it might not happen if you don’t schedule it before you know how it will work out.
And that you might have to disappoint someone or let them down— maybe only in your people pleasing imagination, maybe for real, either way.
And that humans require unplugging to function well.
And all that effort, the packing, arranging, delegating, disappointing, sacrificing or saving… it’s worth it.
I’m your coach and I love Instagram and I’m telling ya, airplane mode is your friend.
Temporarily deleting apps is ok.
Forgetting your phone is also ok— literally everyone survived that way before I was 20 years old.
Practice the unplug! 😊

This is a little note for my “all or nothing thinkers” who like me, have to combat the impulse to not do something if you can’t do it “right” or in your most idealized way.
I meditated for 5 minutes this morning.
In fact, I did all 6 parts of the miracle morning for 5 minutes each this morning.
With my toddler playing nearby. [i made modifications]
My morning was so much more empowered then they have been lately even though my “ideal” would have been to do all those things for longer.
When doing something new (or old) a little is better then nothing. This is just about always true.
And if this is hard to believe— then that’s your work— to figure out why and how to try it despite your discomfort or doubts.
A walk around the yard.
Some yoga.
Reading a page of a novel.
Write a paragraph to get in touch with your inner mind right now. Cleaning one thing.
Research one aspect of one aspect of something you’ve been avoiding researching.
Pay a bill.
Do it. Let five minutes be enough.
*you can always do “more” later 😉

In coaching sessions there is sometimes a lot of unpacking. All the thoughts you are thinking that are impacting you right now are often quite hard to identify. Feelings can be hard to… feel. You deserve support on the journey of untangling.
But if you are are your own, for whatever reason, here’s a place to start with yourself— say something kind to yourself.
Is it hard to do?
Why?
