Providence Day Girls Basketball has a storied tradition as one of the premier girls basketball programs in the country! The Chargers have won 11 out of the last 12 (15 overall) NCISAA (North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association) State Championships including a 42-21 victory over Ravenscroft in the 2016 Title game. Providence Day finished the 2015-16 season ranked #14 in the country by
USA Today and was awarded the #1 spot in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 poll.Providence Day has an undefeated record in CISAA Conference play over the last decade (93 consecutive games). Head Coach, Josh Springer, is beginning his tenth year at the helm of the Chargers. He has accumulated an overall record of 239-35 in nine seasons at Providence Day. Springer was voted North Carolina Girls Basketball Coach of the Year by USA Today in 2014 and Charlotte Observer Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2016. The Chargers have produced a North Carolina record 7 North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year Award winners, including four in five years from 2012-2016. Konecka Drakeford won it twice, in 1991 and 1993, and Natasha Brackett won it for the Chargers in 2001. Tiffany Mitchell took home the award in 2012, and Jatarie White won it in 2013 and 2014. Erin Whalen recently took home the honors in 2016. Providence Day also has had three players represent USA Basketball. Tiffany Mitchell (2012) and Jatarie White (2014) have both claimed gold medals, and Janelle Bailey (2017) earned a bronze medal at the 2016 World Championships. On the collegiate level, the Chargers have a plethora of players playing at the D-I, D-II, and D-III levels currently. Tiffany Mitchell (2012) was selected by the Indiana Fever as the 9th pick in the 1st round of the 2016 WNBA draft. Head Coach: Josh Springer
