🍁Sibling Fall Works 🍂

With Montessori shelf works your children, at whatever age, can work side by side on a work created to teach them individual skills appropriate to their learning ability, interest and style.

What’s even better is watching how they give each other lessons on their new works 🤗

🎃 Fall Works 🎃

Early morning rises are always more exciting when there are new works to do. Especially when they involve pumpkins!

🎃 Spooky House 👻

Beautiful start to a Saturday morning. Baby sister is painting her “spooky house” ready for Halloween!

The dollar section in Target never fails 🙌

📸 Capturing Moments 📷

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever. Impossible to reproduce.” ~ Karl Largerfield

I’ve always loved photographs, maybe a little more before the days of the digital camera and the ease of having a lens imbedded in your mobile phone. I loved the excitement of dropping off a reel of film and waiting to collect the photographs I took (having forgotten what a lot of them were because I was so precious about each shot, each reel lasted me a long time!) In this day in age I still love photographs and although I miss the old fashioned ways, I’m happy for the ease I can take and store them now. I can journal my children’s life from the day they were born, that is something special.

What photography has taken away from me recently is my full presence. Every time I am with my children in a beautiful moment, my mind tells me I need to capture it and share it because this cannot be reproduced. But, when I cannot capture that moment organically because I don’t have the equipment I need right beside me or I am part of the moment, I end up causing more of a disturbance and loosing the beauty that it originally held.

I will get back to my camera and sharing our moments but, for a while at least, I’m going to collect these precious moments within me without the need to store them on my phone.

We revisited the teen board today after my realization a few weeks ago that the work we had done on it before summer needed a refresher!

And a refresher it was, we started like we’d never done it before. I have the lesson, Elizabeth watched intently, then she had her turn.

Sometimes you just need to stand back, take a break and then start afresh! 🤗

We love afternoon shelf works.

“I’m picking up a baby bumble bee…”

Not a real 🐝 but baby sister has been really enjoying this tonging work recently. This is the first week where she noticed that the color of the bees corresponded to the color of the hives too!

When it’s nap time for baby sister Elizabeth always takes time to rest too. Sometimes she lays down, sometimes she reads and today she chose to write (the first time she read it to me it sounded a little different but just as interesting!)

After a long and wonderful summer of ballet camp and music, we hadn’t touched our math works in a while. Today, I remembered the importance of revisiting and refreshing our children’s minds with things we assume they remember from 10 weeks ago. I dived into bringing the teen board out for Elizabeth only for her to stare at it like she’d never seen it before in her life. I held back the mama instinct in me to be like, “of course you know this work, we’ve done it a million times!” To instead recognize, as a Montessori guide, that we needed to scale back today. So, out came our much loved and used homemade sandpaper letters. She was so excited, she started by ordering them and then giving her baby sister a lesson on numbers 1,2 and 3 🤗

On of our morning work choices. Sandpaper letters, my favorite! 🐢

🪐 Projection Torch 🌎

We’ve made some wonderful finds in the dollar section at Target but I have to say, this is one of the best to date!

Our summer homeschool theme was Space so, just imagine how excited Elizabeth and baby sister were to see this projection torch. It has images of the Sun, the Earth, the Milky Way, the Moon a rocket ship and so much more!

Aside from all of the wonderful pictures, it was also wonderful for those problem solving and fine motor skills, figuring out how to put the slides in and rotate them.

I think I might borrow it at bed time to admire outer space! 💫
