Happy Passover to all observing this week. Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is commemorated by many Jewish communities across the globe. The observation of Passover is over the course of seven to eight days. A few traditions include a Seder meal, storytelling, and time spent with loved ones. A few foods on a Seder plate might include matzah, zeroa (shank bone), beitzah (egg), and karpa (vegetable).

Eid Mubarak to all observing this week! Eid al-Fitr translates from Arabic to English as “the feast of breaking the fast.” This holiday honors the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is one of the most sacred times of the year for many Muslims across the globe. Eid is typically celebrated for several days. Families, friends, and community members often gather for prayers and meals together. Some traditions include the preparation of sweet dishes and homes decorated with lanterns, lights, and flowers. Children receive gifts and learn about the importance of giving back to communities. As many Muslims observe Eid, it is common to reflect and donate to charity, known as Zakat al-Fitr. Zakat al-Fitr and giving back are foundational values of Islam. To all commemorating this sacred time in the Providence Day community, Eid Mubarak!
