Your Best Shot is an online and live training course for dental hygienists in North Carolina. Welcome to Your Best Shot NC!
Our mission is to empower dental hygienists to provide safe, effective & repeatable dental anesthesia. We believe every hygienist can learn to give safe, effective and repeatable local anesthetic. Our course is designed to prepare the dental hygienist in the state of North Carolina to administer local anesthesia. We provide the 24 hours of continuing education required by the NC Board of Dental Ex
aminers. The initial 16 hours will be completed online. Participants may then register for the 8 hour participation course currently held in Charlotte, NC. Your Best Shot: Excellence in Local Anesthesia
Course Title: Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist
Credit Hours:
- 24 hours total by PACE approved provider.
- 16 hours didactic – web-based and available to you 24/7 for one year!
- 8 hours clinical – In person, participation course in Charlotte, NC
Course Content Includes:
- Rational for Pain Management
- Review of Essential Anatomy
- Physiology of Local Anesthesia and Vasoconstrictors
- Management of Emergencies in the Dental Office
- Review Documentation
Recommended Textbooks:
A textbook is not required for this class. Should you like an additional resource, we recommend any of the three following texts:
- Handbook of Local Anesthesia 7th ed by Dr. Stanley Malamed
- Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist 3rd ed by Demetra Logothesis
- Local Anesthesia for the Dental Professional 2nd ed by Kathy Bassett
Per NC Board of Dental Examiner, in addition to the 24 hours outlined above, proof of an additional 24 injections under supervision of a licensed dentist is required. The participant will then submit proof of completion of this course to the Board for Certification. Your Best Shot in NC is a PACE provider. PACE is recognized by the NC Dental Board as an approved provider. Dr. Elaine Vowell is licensed and practices in North Carolina.
