HAPPY NATIONAL WHITE CANE SAFETY DAY!!!

Today is officially National White Cane Safety Day!! One week from today BSF will be hosting a fundraiser to raise awareness about the white cane and the accomplishments of the blind. There will be a presentation, testimonials about the canes many benefits, snacks, low vision simulation activities/games, and fellowship. Get ready for some fun!!

When: Saturday October 22nd

** Don’t forget there is a $10 minimum cash donation to attend. This money will help us provide trainings to other organizations and churches. Also, a portion of the donations will be donated to the church who is allowing us to use there facility free of charge.

Once you donate $10 you will get your own handmade cane keychain! See picture below!

Have you ever seen these yellow bumps on the ground when you are crossing streets, entering/leaving the grocery store or taking the train? Have you ever wondered what they were or why they were there?

They are called Truncated domes (AKA detectable warnings, tactile paving, detectable warning surfaces) are ground surface indicators designed to assist and warn pedestrians who are blind or visually impaired.

Truncated domes feature a unique pattern of cones that are easily detected by a cane or foot, alerting the visually impaired to the presence of a street or sudden drop-off.

Some of my students like to call it “Sidewalk Braille”, rightfully so!

Beyond Sight Foundation 501(c)3 will be focused on bridging the gap between the sighted community and the visually impaired community. You don't want to miss out on the fun and exiting things ahead.

When you attend one of our training's you will go under simulation and experience what it's like to have different kinds of visual impairments. From tunnel vision to macular degeneration Taylor will take you through just a glimpse of what it's like to walk in the shoes of someone who experiences it everyday.
