Waves of Change, Charleston

Our fourth and final session in our inaugural Waves of Change course was a productive one. We discussed the many purposes of high school, the importance of working hard now to ensure success in our future, and the impact our grades and test scores have in regards to various post-high school options. We also took career tests to begin the conversation of which colleges, trades and jobs might be good matches for us in the future.

We are looking forward to offering this course as both an in-person and a virtual option in the new year. We will share details for registration in the weeks ahead.

We learned about managing stress and test anxiety at last week’s Waves of Change class. And we spent a little time writing notes of thanks and encouragement to our troops. 🇺🇸
Excited for Session 4 next week when we will discuss results from the Self Directed Search career interest inventories, and give an overview of what students can be thinking about now as grades and curriculum, standardized testing, extracurricular activities and involvements relate to future college and career plans.

Great to see everyone again last evening for Seesion 2 as we learned about Goal Setting and Time Management. We also wrote cards to celebrate the upcoming 100th Birthday for a woman in our community. We will continue to talk about the importance of creating Waves of Change in our own lives, while doing the same for the benefit of others.

Session One of our inaugural Waves of Change course is in the books! We learned valuable tips for Study Skills, Note Taking, and Test Prep. Looking forward to Session 2 when we will discuss the importance of Time Management and Goal Setting. Thankful for the great group of students in attendance and for our student volunteers!

So excited for today! Who knew that a dream many years ago would lead to a conversation that would launch this program? Thank you to everyone who registered their high schooler for our first ever class! We are so grateful for you!

From dream to reality…

For years, we have worked with high school students, and many of them often mention that they wish they had been more focused on their academics, with extracurricular activities, and in regards to future pursuits as far as college major and career choice from the start of high school.

Waves of Change is a 4-session course that will assist 9th and 10th grade students with each of these aspects of development.
Topics covered in the course will include: study skills, note taking, time management, goal setting, stress management, extracurricular and community service involvement, career and college preparation, and more.

We are excited to welcome our first group of students this Monday at 6:30pm!
