🌟 WE HAVE SOME INCREDIBLE NEWS TO SHARE WITH OUR COMMUNITY! 🌟

Brandie and Dan will be honored as and featured in a Difference Makers segment on “A World of Difference: Embracing Neurodiversity.” filming in Charleston this April.

This recognition means so much not because of what it does for our school, but because of what it represents for the 1 in 5 children in this country who have dyslexia, and the countless more with dysgraphia and dyscalculia who are too often overlooked, misdiagnosed, or simply told they aren't trying hard enough.

The Promise School was founded on a simple but powerful belief: every child has gifts. Our job is to find them.

Using the Orton-Gillingham approach with full fidelity, we serve students in grades K–7 who have language-based learning differences in a small, nurturing, specialized environment right here in Charleston, SC.

To every educator, administrator, and policymaker in our network: the research is clear. Structured literacy works. Specialized schools work. Early intervention works.

We need more of this in every city, in every district.

Thank you for shining a light on dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia.

🌟 We've been featured in Live 5 News and we couldn't be more proud!

This week, reporter Gracie Kirschner visited The Promise School to spotlight the work we do every day for students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia right here in Charleston.

Our head of school, Brandie Garrett D'Orazio, founded The Promise School after watching her own children navigate learning differences and that personal mission is at the heart of everything we do. As she put it, the growth she sees in students "extends far beyond academics."

Families like Tracy Szpuk's have seen remarkable transformations. Her daughter Sophie went from dreading reading to asking to read aloud at home with inflection in her voice. Tracy told us: "She was night and day."

Student Coralynn Klomparens summed it up perfectly: "I feel much more confident and I feel like I can do harder things."
Small class sizes. Orton-Gillingham instruction. Speech, occupational, and mental health therapy on-site. A weekly therapy dog. And a community where, as one student told us, "everybody's like me." 💙

If your family is searching for answers, we'd love to connect.

Sometimes parents come to us exhausted.

They’ve watched their bright, creative child struggle with reading and begin to believe something is wrong with them.

The truth is often much simpler.

Many children with dyslexia were never taught to read in the way their brains actually learn.

Confidence returns.
Curiosity returns.
Joy returns.

Every child DESERVES the chance to discover that they are capable.

DON’T WAIT.

When children struggle with reading, writing, or math, they don’t assume it’s neurological. They assume it’s their fault.

Dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia are brain-based learning differences. With early identification and structured, evidence-based instruction, children thrive.

The risk is not struggle. The risk is delay. Charleston families deserve accurate information and timely support.
