What is WV Senate Bill 69 (SB69)?
SB69 is a bill introduced in the West Virginia Senate that would require public colleges and universities to accept the Classic Learning Test (CLT) as an option for college admissions.
The CLT is a standardized exam that measures reading, writing/grammar, and math, using passages drawn largely from historical and classical texts. SB69 would add the CLT alongside the SAT and ACT - not replace them.
This bill affects college admissions only. It does not change K–12 curriculum, require classical education in public schools, or mandate that students take the CLT.
SB69 is currently in the Senate committee process. There is not yet a House companion bill.
