Congratulations to Mr. Evan Nelson, recently named the next principal of Rashkis Elementary School! Mr. Nelson has been with CHCCS for six years, including the past two years as the assistant principal at Scroggs Elementary. Prior to that he served as the AP at Seawell Elementary.

โ€œI am honored and excited to join the Rashkis Elementary School community as principal,โ€ Mr. Nelson said. โ€œI believe the principalship is founded on service, on being present in the daily life of the school, and on building relationships. Strong relationships are built on trust that grows when people feel heard, supported, and known. I care deeply about student growth and strong academic outcomes, and I believe that students should have opportunities to develop communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that will serve them beyond their time as a Raptor. Most importantly, I am committed to reducing and eliminating opportunity gaps in our community and to fostering an environment where students and staff feel a true sense of belonging.โ€

Mr. Nelson was raised in New Bern, NC, and later graduated from East Carolina University with both a Bachelor of Science in History Education and a Bachelor of Arts in History. He taught World History, Civics & Economics, and AP Psychology in Greenville, NC, and later earned his Master of School Administration from ECU as a North Carolina Principal Fellow.

โ€œAt home, my wife, Meredith (a Tar Heel grad), and I stay busy with our son, Thomas, and daughter, Maxwell Kate (โ€œMKโ€), along with a dog and a cat,โ€ said Mr. Nelson. โ€œOutside of school, I enjoy reading and listening to audiobooks, weightlifting, spending time outdoors with my family, exploring the many unique towns and areas in our great state, and rooting for several sports teams, including ECU Football, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Philadelphia Phillies.โ€

Rashkis families should be on the lookout for a โ€œmeet and greetโ€ with Mr. Nelson before the current school year ends.

Finally, please join us in sharing gratitude for Ms. Minnie Goins as her interim principal service comes to an end. Thank you, Ms. Goins!
