We are an ever-evolving group of volunteers - building in memory of James Bernard Karpinos, Emory Al

In 5 years time, a total of 127 volunteers have traveled to New Orleans;
to devote 2,032 hours of time toward reconstruction & relief in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita & Isaac. (That's 1 whole year's worth of work in the life of one person :-)

Many of us are Americorps*NCCC Alumni - Class XII - deployed to the Gulf Coast to play an integral part in disaster response. We returned to Ne

Attention Friends of the Build! Myself, Liz & Elise have collectively decided to take a short break in 2016 from this annual community investment but intend to resume in full fashion for the 10th annual memorial build slated for 2018! While there is much to discuss in preparation, one exciting idea would bring friends & family to the beautiful (& relatively accessible) town of Asheville, NC; where James last resided & where Ranger Larry Johnson (my dad) has offered to lead a commemorative hike back to Windy Falls, for those interested... Of course, alternate ideas are welcomed & can be suggested - here :)

We are hopeful that proceeding in this fashion will allow for a resurgence in attendance, not to mention progress made (a farm to construct, a wedding to facilitate, private practices to grow) toward independent endeavors. If anyone would like to take a managerial role to continue efforts in the meantime, we are - of course - happy to support continued initiatives.

'To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die' - may the memories of James B Karpinos & Emory A Corwine burn brightly in the hearts of many :D

Happy New Year - Bri, Liz & Elise

Always thinking about our beautiful friend, who can rock the mullet and a skirt, make wonderfully awful puns, and constantly make you a better person just being in his presence...much love, my friend!

In Memory of James | Saucy Spork Written seven years after he died, In Memory of James is a tribute to a lost friend who we keep alive in our hearts and minds. We still miss you.

For those of you participating in the Build this weekend, remember to bring a shirt/tank top/sweatshirt/canvas bag (or whatever!) to the Saturday night dinner to screen print. I will be bringing the designed screen and the paints -- you just need to bring a canvas for yourself! Looking forward to seeing you all!

Hello beautiful people!
We hope this post finds you well and enjoying the holidays with your loved ones! Here is an update on the Build for James and Emory and what we need from you...
-Typically we have the build in November but because of life, we just weren't able to get together, so the 2015 Build will be held March 6-8 in Chapel Hill, NC!
-Basic schedule:
Thursday, March 5 travel day
Friday, March 6-volunteer (working on a building project), still working out the details but we will probably work 8-4
Saturday, March 7-volunteer, dinner at Margy's house Saturday night
Sunday, March 8-Fun 5k run/walk through Chapel Hill followed by brunch at the Karpinos' Then give lots of hugs and travel home
-We are still working out the details for housing/transportation. A lot of that depends on how many people will be attending, the sooner we hear from you, the sooner we can give you all the details :) Some gracious folks in Chapel Hill have offered up rooms but we are also looking into Air Bnb to get a large house if the numbers dictate that. As always, we will try to run shuttles to and from the airport to cut down on costs of a car rental.
-What we need from you by February 1:
-Name
- Dates attending
-Travel Information
-Do you need housing?
-Do you need a ride from the airport?
Please send all responses/questions to [email protected]
Please share this with anyone that might not be on this list or you think would be interested in participating. We look forward to seeing you all in a few short months. Have a happy and healthy New Year!
Much love,
Liz, Elise, and Bri
