Discussions got intense in 6th grade today! Students analyzed the characters in "Thank You, Ma'am" by Langston Hughes. Students worked in groups to form claims -- backed up with evidence and reasoning -- about their thoughts on a character being round, flat, static, dynamic, protagonist, or antagonist. But to help us work on building strong claims, other groups could write and add counter claims! Students got very involved in searching for text evidence to support their claims and counter claims. We had a lot of great discussion and learned a lot about characterization!
