I LOVE TEACHING MAHJONG 102!

This is the class where so much of the game starts to click.

We don’t just sit down and play. We start with a lesson exploring some of the more challenging hands on the card, helping you better understand what you’re looking for and recognize possibilities you may have been missing.

Then we put it into practice, working on better decision-making, improving your strategy during the Charleston, and starting to think beyond simply making a hand.

We have a Mahjong 102 class this Wednesday at 2 PM that needs just two more players. Would you join us?

Mahjong 102 is perfect if you’ve taken Mahjong 101 with me, or learned elsewhere, and you already know the basics and have played before.

If you know how to play but are ready to better understand the card, improve your strategy, and feel more confident at the table, this is your next step.

27 PLAYERS ARE ALREADY JOINING US FOR MAHJONG TONIGHT!

Wednesdays have officially become Mahjong Night at Ono Offshore, and our community keeps growing!

Every Wednesday from 6:30–8:30 PM, we’ll have room for up to 40 players:

8 Guided Play seats for players who want extra support while playing full games.

32 Social Play seats for independent players ready for a fun night of Mahjong.

Tonight’s Guided Play is SOLD OUT, but we still have plenty of Social Play seats available — so come join the 27 players already signed up!

For Social Play, we’ll seat players by pace preference whenever possible, whether you prefer a more relaxed game or like to keep those tiles moving.

Come regularly, come occasionally, come with friends or come on your own. Our goal is to make Wednesday nights a fun, welcoming place to play Mahjong and be part of a growing community.

WEDNESDAYS ARE FOR MAHJONG!

After trying out a few different days of the week, we’re settling into Wednesday as the new home for our weekly Social Play!

Join us every Wednesday from 6:30–8:30 PM for a fun, welcoming evening of American Mahjong at Ono.

Social Play is all about enjoying the game, meeting other players and celebrating those Mahjong wins together! We’ll seat players by skill level whenever possible, so you can enjoy games with others playing at a similar pace and experience level.

Not quite ready for independent Social Play yet? You can still join us! Each Wednesday, I’ll also have two tables reserved for Guided Play at the same time. Guided Play gives you the opportunity to play full games while getting extra support, reminders and coaching from me along the way.

So whether you’re ready to play independently or still want a little help building your confidence, there’s a seat for you on Wednesday nights.

Ready to Level Up your Mahjong game?

Join us tomorrow night, Wednesday 8/26, at 6:30 PM at Ono Offshore for a night designed specifically for intermediate players who are comfortable with the basics and ready to become faster, more confident and more strategic players.

We’ll focus on the skills that start to make a real difference as your game progresses: increasing your pace, making quicker decisions, improving hand strategy, recognizing when it’s time to pivot, and becoming more aware of defensive play.

We’ll also introduce some of the expectations and differences you’ll encounter in more competitive and tournament-style Mahjong, while still keeping the evening fun and supportive.

This is not a beginner lesson or Guided Play. You should already be comfortable playing independently and know the basic rules of American Mahjong.

If Social Play feels comfortable and you’re starting to wonder, “Okay, how do I get better?” this night is for you.

Join us for Mahjong: Level Up Night, a new opportunity for players who know the basics and are ready to strengthen their game alongside others with similar goals.
We'll start with a brief discussion of tournament-style play and strategies to help improve pace and decision making. Then we'll put those concepts into practice through guided rounds focused on building confidence, increasing game speed, and becoming more comfortable with competitive play.
Players should already know how to play American Mahjong and be able to play independently and be ready to challenge themselves to improve their game..
Whether you're interested in tournaments, league play, or simply becoming a stronger player, Level Up Night is designed to help you take the next step.

Ready to challenge yourself to play faster and smarter?

Our second Mahjong Level-Up Night is Wednesday, August 26 at 630PM!

Level-Up Night is for intermediate players who are comfortable playing independently and want something more structured and challenging than casual social play. Maybe you want to increase your pace, sharpen your decision-making and defensive skills, or you’re simply curious about tournament Mahjong and how it differs from the social game you’re used to playing.

We’re not jumping straight to tournament speed. The goal is to work toward it together.

During the evening, we’ll focus on:

• Playing at a faster, more consistent pace
• Making quicker, more intentional decisions
• Hand selection, defensive strategy and reading the table
• Calling hands dead when appropriate
• Tournament-style rules, expectations and table etiquette
• Playing with fewer interruptions and less coaching

We’ll start the night with a brief strategy or tournament-focused topic, then put it into practice through structured play.

Our long-term goal is to gradually work toward a tournament pace of approximately four games per 50–60 minute round while building the confidence and table awareness to get there.

I’m so excited that Mahjong at Ono was featured in a recent Northern Virginia Magazine article, “Mahjong Fever Is Spreading Across Northern Virginia!”

Mahjong is definitely having a moment here in NoVA and across the country, and I’m curious to hear from all of you:

Why do YOU think Mahjong is sweeping the country right now? What made you fall in love with the game?

Is it the strategy? The social connection? The challenge? The friendships? Or just how much fun it is to say “Mahjong!”?

When I offered my very first Mahjong lesson at Ono Brewing, I never could have imagined where it would lead. What started as a few lessons has grown into a team that has taught more than 700 people and built a strong Mahjong community right here in Chantilly .

It’s been a crazy ride, and I absolutely love seeing this community continue to grow.

We had so much fun at the first of our new weekly Mahjong Social Play nights at Ono Offshore!

We welcomed 24 Social Play players, plus 4 Guided Play players who wanted a little extra support and attention from me while they played. It was wonderful seeing tables full of Mahjong and our community continuing to grow!

Whether you're ready to play independently or still want a little guidance, there's a seat for you. If you already know the basics of American Mahjong, choose the option that's right for you:

Social Play: Come play, meet other local players, and get more time at the table in a fun, welcoming environment.

Guided Play: Play alongside others with an instructor nearby to answer questions, reinforce what you've learned, and help build your confidence.
