We had a CASD School Board on Tuesday after no meetings in July. It was a fairly short meeting that was highlighted by updates from Directors Nelson, Cashdollar and Luffy. We heard a summary of plans for enhanced professional development, a targeted push for reading by third grade, an update on the Academy plan and that the future intermediate school design is already starting.
During the consent agenda, you can really see the financial challenges of school districts who are mandated to educate and transport all students who live in the district to a school according to student needs, not necessarily a CASD school.

The May 26, 2026 Chambersburg Area School Board meeting was one to view if you enjoy seeing and hearing about student success. Congratulations to Natalie Eshleman for receiving a nice PSBA scholarship.
Brad Ocker from Career and Community reported that 118 CASD students completed community based 120 hour plus internships and many were offered jobs.
Braden Lehman, the PA state SkillsUSA student of the year, presented the many awards from the CNS/Career Tech side.
Parker Christophel, a current and future CASHS leader, presented a summary of end of school activities.
NJROTC 2026-2027 leaders Landon Shaner, Ava Burgum and Ivan Rojas summarized the numerous regional and national awards received by individual students (Cadet Liu) and drill teams. This is an exemplary student organization.
The Tuesday, June 2 meeting will include interviews with candidates to replace Stephanie Harbaugh at 6:00 pm and then 2026- 2027 budget and additional discussions regarding the proposed major building projects.

The April 14 CASD School Board meeting was lengthy because it contained three comprehensive presentations.
Andrea Mills provided a one year summary of the Chambersburg Engagement Center (CEC). This center helps families and students with registrations, medical services to start school and appropriate placement for English learners. This center is located downtown.
Deborah Luffy gave an update on the high school Academy plan. The new model is designed to further engage students and parents in targeting interests and tailoring education to the student.
Bobbie Stine gave a status report on District Food Services. The update included information regarding the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) that was started this year in the Middle Schools. It has expanded food service among these students, led to a new financial deficit but we were reassured that current reserves are adequate for years to come.
Lots of information. If interested in more detail, check it out on the CASD you tube channel or review the presentations at CASD online.org (school board, board docs). I’m available at [email protected]
