Woven Linen Tapes had lots of uses around households & farmsteads. They were an essential part of most women’s dress during the 17th & 18th Centuries, used as waistbands for aprons & petticoats, as well as binding for hems & seams. If you’re making a new apron & would like coordinating tape, please contact me.

Crushing flax seed pods today. I have a pile (unsightly heap might be more accurate) of whole pods, bits of flax straw, dead shriveled leaves, & powdery dirt from the roots. I used a rolling pin, a large block of wood, & it took awhile. The proper tool for a large amount would have been a special flax flail, a long, heavy club or mallet to gently crush the seed pods without harming the seeds inside. The seeds still need to be winowed. I will probably skip this step & just plant them, kind of late (very) this year.

got flax?

Rippling flax today. I have used many tools to remove the seed pods, (lol) wool combs, flax hackles, wooden mallets, but a proper ripple works the best, so efficient.

And the weaving continues....
The hectic Spring of chores, gardening, yardwork, other projects, & additional demands on my time, is now ebbing. This weaving will soon be completed.

🧶 30 bobbins/spools now wound & ready. 🧵
I’m eagerly awaiting two new 15 dent combs for the tension box. They’re on their way, & when they arrive I can continue setting this up. Excited to begin something new on the downstairs loom.

Not a lot is happening with the Glimakra, can’t get a clean shed, although I keep trying, adjusting the cords, tie/ups, & treadles.

Threaded yarn on my little Darling Dorset folding floor loom this afternoon. Honeysuckle pattern.

Wound bobbins this morning, for the downstairs loom. I’m almost out of the size yarn I want to use. No homespun this time.

Warping frame with spools. This is especially useful when winding a warp with many threads to the inch. I've been trying to use up the remnants that I have sitting around in my stash. These will be going into a coverlet sample...I have still more spools to wind....
