What would you do if the worst thing that ever happened to you pointed you straight toward the most important thing you could do next?

A junior at a Fairfax County high school lost his older brother to homelessness in 2024. About a year later, he walked back into the shelter where his brother had stayed. And instead of walking out feeling helpless, he came out with a plan.

Today, his nonprofit, Hands in Hope, includes about 100 students from across Fairfax County. They're assembling care kits, writing kindness cards by hand, and making sure unhoused neighbors know they're not invisible.
