🎉Congratulations to Hunter Shields and Gage Miles!🚑

Both Hunter and Gage passed the National Registry Paramedic Exam today on their very first attempt!

Passing the NREMT Paramedic exam is the goal every paramedic student works toward throughout the program, and seeing these two reach that milestone is something worth celebrating.

Travis and I are incredibly proud instructors today. Hunter and Gage have put in the time, effort, clinical hours, studying, skills practice, and dedication it takes to reach this point, and we know they are going to do amazing things in their careers.

🚑 Big news for EMS!

The FDA has approved the first freeze-dried plasma product in the U.S. — a pretty exciting and historic step forward for prehospital care and the continued advancement of paramedicine.

Innovations like this show just how much EMS continues to grow and evolve, especially when it comes to treating critically ill and injured patients before they ever reach the hospital.

Congratulations to the Graduating Paramedicine class of 2026‼️

These two outstanding gentlemen have worked so hard the past 12 months towards completing their Paramedicine Degrees here at KC. These students have completed over 1200 hours of theory and clinical time in a short 12 months while still balancing full time work schedules (24 and 48 hour shifts) families, friends, and even military drill weekends.

We are so proud and honored to be able to watch these students grow and flourish over the past year and we can’t wait to see all the future accomplishments these two will make.

Good luck Gage and Hunter on your National Registry Exams and you will always be a part of the Kaskaskia College Paramedicine Family 💙🚑🤍

🫀❤️ You’re never too young to learn how to save a life! ❤️🫀

This summer, local youth had the opportunity to participate in our KICK (Kids in College at Kaskaskia) CPR and First Aid class through Kaskaskia College EMT/Paramedicine (KC EMS). Throughout the class, students learned lifesaving skills including CPR, basic first aid, and how to respond during emergencies.

At KC EMS, we believe education has no age limit. Teaching these important skills at a young age helps build confidence, prepares future healthcare providers, and empowers our community to respond when seconds matter most.

Whether you’re 8 or 80, you are never too young—or too old—to learn CPR and make a difference in someone’s life.

A huge thank you to all of our KICK students for their enthusiasm and dedication to learning these lifesaving skills. We hope to see many of you back on campus in the future—perhaps as future EMT or paramedic students!

🚑 Hands-on learning. Real-world skills. Better patient care.

Recently, Kaskaskia College EMS partnered with Clay County Ambulance Service, the Flora Fire Department, and Air Evac Lifeteam to host a Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course for both ALS and BLS providers.

Participants spent the day sharpening their trauma assessment and management skills through hands-on scenarios and practical skill stations focused on the rapid identification and treatment of traumatic injuries. Courses like PHTLS help ensure that EMS providers are prepared to deliver the highest level of care when seconds matter most.

Thank you to our partners at Clay County Hospital Ambulance Service, Flora Fire Department, and Air Evac Lifeteam for helping make this educational opportunity possible!

PHTLS is just one of the many continuing education opportunities offered through Kaskaskia College EMS as we remain committed to supporting lifelong learning and advancing EMS throughout our region.
