We’re back! 🎉 Our 18+ Transition Services staff kicked off the second year in the Denise Geiger Compass Center this week! We’re excited for the 2026–2027 school year, and can’t wait to welcome students back for another incredible year of learning, growth, and success.

Today we celebrate Debbie Gauna and an incredible 40-year career dedicated to serving students and making a lasting difference in their lives.

A few facts about Debbie:
-Graduated from Angelo State University and later earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Lamar University in 2021.

-Throughout her career in Leander ISD, Debbie worked at: CPMS, CPHS, VRHS, RHS, and SELF 18+.

-Served in multiple leadership positions throughout the district, including: Special Education Team Leader, Transition Coordinator, Intervention Specialist, and Student Council Sponsor.

-Joined the SELF 18+ program in 2014.

-Instrumental in improving and expanding the SELF program.

Debbie leaves behind a legacy of hope, innovation, and unwavering commitment to helping every student reach their full potential. Throughout her career, she created meaningful opportunities, challenged systems to make them better, and inspired those around her with her vision, leadership, and determination. Her ability to see challenges as opportunities and her commitment to making a difference will continue to impact lives for years to come.

That’s a wrap on the 2025–2026 school year and our inaugural year in the Compass Center! 🎉

We ended the year with fun, community, and laughter, celebrating the memories we made and looking ahead to the bright futures of our students. Here’s to all we’ve accomplished and all that’s still to come! 💙

Compass Center students rode the CapMetro bus and train to the Transit Store to get their reduced‑fare cards — opening the door to more independence, more access, and more community adventures.

🌼 Bluebonnet Backpack Food Drive Success! 🌼

For the past 2 weeks, Compass Center students showed incredible generosity and teamwork collecting food for the Backpack Program. This food drive was initiated by Ms. Gauna’s SELF 2 independence class.

• SELF 2 Community brought in 803 items, earning a well‑deserved pizza party.

• Mrs. Crompton’s SELF 2 STRIVE class collected 352 items, winning a cupcake party.

• Mrs. Gassaway’s SELF 2 Determined morning class contributed 85 items, earning a donut party.

Thank you to every student, staff member, and family who contributed. Your kindness strengthens our Backpack Program and makes a real difference!
