Over the weekend, the Round Rock Fire Department lost one of our own. Fire Driver Zach French served this community alongside the men and women of RRFD for nearly 19 years, and his loss is being felt throughout our department and the public safety community.

We are grateful for the support shown by neighboring agencies, our fellow employees, hospital staff and the community during this difficult time. Many community members may have noticed neighboring agencies assisting with emergency response coverage or gatherings of our firefighters over the past several days. These acts of support allowed our firefighters the opportunity to be together and support one another, and we are deeply appreciative of everyone who made that possible.

Out of respect for the family, we will not be sharing additional details at this time. We ask that you keep Zach’s family, friends and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers.

Attention Hutto residents:

The attached agenda for next week’s City Council/HEDC meeting includes discussion items regarding the proposed development and funding of a City of Hutto Fire Station #1.

We strongly encourage residents to attend this meeting and make their voices heard. Decisions made now could have a long-term impact on the future of fire service in Hutto and on local taxpayer dollars. Community input is important, and this is an opportunity for residents to ask questions, express concerns, and stay informed about what is being proposed.

Currently, fire protection services for Hutto residents are provided through Williamson County ESD #3. Local 4707 believes residents deserve a clear understanding of the financial and operational impacts before moving forward with the creation of a separate city fire department and the additional expenses that may come with it.

We encourage respectful and professional discussion from everyone in our community.

Don’t forget about your #1 fans

I get asked a lot how I balance family and training. The truth is balance looks different for everyone. I encourage all of you to find what works for your family when it comes to attending or instructing at training.

One thing I do is have my little one make a list of anything she wants to do. Before my trip to El Paso, we had a few β€œYes Days.” And if anyone wants to say I’m spoiling herβ€”you’re damn right I am.

Kids deserve the world. It’s hard enough being gone for shift work, and even harder when training takes us away on top of that.

I challenge others to try a few β€œYes Days” before heading out to training. Don’t loose the balance battle with family and the job.
