Unfortunately, some of us have forgotten where we came from and what it felt like to be the new guy walking into this job for the first time.

Lately, I’ve seen videos from these so-called “academies,” and it makes me wonder: Are we actually teaching recruits, or are we just playing the tough-guy role?

We owe the next generation better.

A fire academy should build firefighters, not egos. Teach them. Challenge them. Hold them accountable. Motivate them. Mentor them. Give them the tools to succeed.

Because if we don’t teach the new generation what this job is truly about, how the hell do we expect the brotherhood and sisterhood to continue?

To every officer, instructor, and firefighter involved in a new hire academy: cut the bu****it and lead. These recruits took a chance on your department. They showed up because they want to serve. Give them a reason to be proud of where they landed.

Lose the act. Do the work. Protect the oath not the D-bags.

Stop letting the noise kill your momentum. You’ll never please everyone, so quit trying. If you’re doing the work for the firefighters not the rank, the title, or the fame. Keep your head down and keep pushing. The oath matters more than the opinions. Keep loving the job more than they ever will.

Protect the oath not the mutts.

Members of your Hutto Firefighters were out representing our department and our community at the 11th Annual Chris Kelley 5K

This event is about more than crossing the finish line it’s about honoring the life, service, and legacy of Sergeant Chris Kelley while standing alongside the community he dedicated his life to protecting.

Whether running in weighted vests or full turnout gear, our members showed up with purpose, grit, and respect for what this event represents.

It was also great catching up with members of our Box Alarm Ready - Austin TX family. Events like this are a reminder that the fire service is bigger than any one department. The friendships, camaraderie, and support we share extend well beyond the firehouse, and it’s always good to stand alongside those who answer the call with us.

Thank you to everyone who came out to participate, volunteer, and support this incredible event. We’re honored to be a small part of carrying Sgt. Chris Kelley’s legacy forward.

Hot days in South Carolina, but every minute was worth it. The EJ Weekend with On Scene Training Associates was a huge success. Great training, great people, and plenty of lessons learned. If you missed this one, make plans to attend the next. I have a feeling this event is only going to get better each year. See you all at the next one.

"Training Day" is a monthly BAR gear workout followed by some hands on training. This is not a traditional B.A.R class. Its us getting some extra reps to get better after some HARD PT. Due to the high demand we will be doing an application process.

These workouts are harder than traditional B.A.R classes as they tend to last a solid hour + in gear.
