The Philippines had never won an Olympic medal in gymnastics. Yesterday, Carlos Yulo won gold in floor exercises and today he won gold in the vault. I'm beyond happy. Seven years working in the country. So many friends, not the least of which are Astrid Fernandez and her family, including her oldest daughter, my goddaughter, who attends UC Berkeley.
