Paul Puccio School students in Ms. Alexis and Mr. Geritz's room celebrated Dolly Day September 25 (9-2-5) with several Dolly Parton themed activities, including imagining their own books, designing guitars, and combining their ELA and Math skills to bake a "cuppa cuppa cake" (from Steel Magnolias). What a great way to celebrate someone who did a lot of wonderful things for children around the world!

Earlier this week, New Visions: STEM and Emergency Preparedness, Informatics, Cyber and Homeland Security (EPICH) students participated in a fun team building activity at Hudson Valley Community College. During the ice breakers and ropes challenge, students had to communication, problem solve, work together, and trust one another to complete different tasks and fun activities.

With these two classes working together on various projects throughout the year, it was a nice opportunity to meet and get to know each other. We can't wait to see how you collaborate this school year!

New Visions: Pathways in Education, Medical at Samaritan Hospital, and Emergency Preparedness, Informatics, Cyber, and Homeland Security (EPICH) students participated in training hosted by the Questar III BOCES Health and Safety Department. Students learned valuable, life saving skills, including CPR, how to use an AED, epinephrine administration, how to use a tourniquet, and more. Not only is this certification useful in their program fields, but it's also a great life skill to have. Congrats to our students, everyone passed their CPR certification!

The staff and students at the Paul Puccio School at Maple Hill held their first PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) event on Friday, September 18. Thanks to the generous donation of ice cream and toppings by Stewart's Shops, students enjoyed an ice cream social where they made their own sundaes. It was a great way to end the first full week of school!

Last week, New Visions: Emergency Preparedness, Informatics, Cyber, and Homeland Security (EPICH) students met with Dr. Peris, a visiting assistant professor at UAlbany's College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity where their program is hosted. Dr. Peris shared his background with students, introduced career pathways utilizing drones, and helped students kick off their capstone drone project with a demonstration. Students wrapped up the day by visiting Dr. Best, another UAlbany Assistant Professor, in the motion sensor lab. We can't wait to learn more about how the students utilize drones this year for their capstone project!
