It's very clear that dramatic change needs to happen in South Sudan. Mr. Kaya believes that the next generation doesn't have to be founded on fear and violence, but rather it be founded on good decision making. By contributing one dollar tomorrow you're helping to educate teachers that will bring lasting change to the 8 schools we're supporting in Kajo Keji, South Sudan.

A crowd of over 600 giving a standing ovation after Mr. Kaya's speech.

This summer, we asked the community in and around Kajo Keji what they needed most and they said teacher training. Most teachers there grew up during Sudan's civil war and did not have consistent access to education. As a result, very few teachers have actually been trained for the jobs they hold. There is a 3-year certification program where some teachers have been trained, but many more need it. The program costs $490 per teacher. We've set a goal of raising $20,000 in the 2015-2016 school year to provide full scholarships for 40 South Sudanese teachers. We see this as a long-term investment in the future of education in South Sudan.
Our first big fundraiser this year will be our 2nd Annual S4SS Color Run & 5K on November 7 at 9am. Participants can choose the Color Run or competitive 5K, but either way the race will begin and end at the CHS football field and traces a route through nearby neighborhoods. All participants get a t-shirt and after the race there will be several local food trucks on hand to keep the fun going. It was a blast last year (despite sub-freezing temps) and we can't wait for it to be even bigger and better (and warmer) this year.
Please take a moment to check out our website where you'll find links to register for the race, or just to donate to our cause: students4southsudan.org You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram (). Please share this with anyone who may be interested. We're also looking for sponsors for the event, so contact us if you'd like more information about that.
Thanks so much for your continued support!
