Always a fun time with my fellow community partners Tracey Dee Luker, SLP with Little Beginnings Feeding and Olivia Cook with Cultivate Health!

In celebration of National Breastfeeding Month, Piedmont Cartersville welcomed local moms, babies, expectant parents and families for our Breastfeeding & Brunch event.

Hosted by our Lactation Services team, the morning brought families together for education, resources and conversations with healthcare professionals and community partners, along with a little fun along the way.

Because every feeding journey looks different, having the right support and a community to turn to can make all the difference. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning so special. 🧡

If I could sit down with every expecting parent before their baby arrives, these are the things I’d want them to know. 💕
Breastfeeding is often described as “natural,” but that doesn’t mean it always comes naturally. Like any new skill, it takes time, patience, and support for both you and your baby.
If you’re preparing to welcome a little one—or you’re already in the thick of those newborn days—I hope this reminds you that you’re not expected to have all the answers.
Save this post for those middle-of-the-night feeds, and share it with an expecting parent who could use a little encouragement. 🤱

World Breastfeeding Week | My Why ✨💕

In honor of WBW and National Breastfeeding Month, I wanted to share WHY I became an IBCLC and why supporting new families is so important to me.

When my oldest was born, breastfeeding didn’t come as naturally as I expected. I struggled, I questioned myself, and I often felt alone.

My mom and grandmother loved me deeply, but they hadn’t breastfed, so they weren’t able to guide me through the challenges I was facing. At the time, I also found there were very few local resources or support available when I needed them most.

That experience changed me.

I realized no parent should have to navigate those early days feeling alone or wondering where to turn for help.

So I decided to become the support I wish I had.

Today, every home visit, prenatal class, support group, and late-night message is an opportunity to stand in that gap for another family—to offer evidence-based guidance, encouragement, and reassurance that they don’t have to figure it all out on their own.

This World Breastfeeding Week, I’m especially grateful for every family who has trusted me to be part of their journey. Thank you for allowing me to walk alongside you during such a meaningful season of life.

Because every family deserves support, and no one should have to do this alone. 🩷

Great visual on infant feeding patterns over time!

One of the most surprising things for new families is how often newborns eat, feels like they are coming to the breast almost every hour! It’s also surprising for families when these patterns change as baby gets older, babies will often decrease the frequency of feedings but increase in the volume they intake each feeding. 🩷

Look 👀 at this amazing graph which shows every recorded breastfeed for 14 months.

In the early days of breastfeeding it can feel like that’s all you’re doing, and it’s supported by the many dots (feeds) we see in the early months of this baby’s life, but look how the feeds spread out as the baby gets older.

You can see how the pattern changed again as the baby started to eat more solid food alongside breastfeeding, and then how shecontinued having a morning and evening breastfeed for many months after that too.

This is a fabulous visual to show what happens over the course of one breastfeeding journey. (Of course, not everyone’s will look like this)

It can be normal for some babies to decrease the number of feeds as they get older, and it’s fine to follow their lead if all else is well. However other babies will continue frequent feeds day and night and this is fine too! If you’re ever in doubt, or would like some reassurance/support please reach out.*
