✨ Meet Professor Dr. Jung-Sun Park, Professor of Asian-Pacific Studies at CSUDH!
📚 Dr. Park is a cultural anthropologist whose research explores transnationalism, migration, citizenship, race and ethnicity, Asian American communities, diaspora, identity, and Korean and Asian popular culture.
🌏 Her scholarship has made major contributions to the study of the Korean diaspora, Korean American experiences, and transnational cultural flows across the Pacific.
🎓 She is the co-author and co-editor of several important books on Korean American studies, Hallyu, and global diasporic communities, and her research has been published widely in books, journals, and reference works.
🎬 From the Korean Wave to Japanese comics and animation, Dr. Park’s work helps us better understand how culture, identity, and power move across borders.

✨ Meet Professor Dr. Y Thien Nguyen, Assistant Professor in Asian Pacific Studies at CSUDH!
📚 Dr. Nguyen specializes in modern Vietnam and Vietnamese refugee experiences, with research focused on the political, ideological, and institutional connections between the Republic of Vietnam and Vietnamese America.
🎓 He earned his PhD in Sociology from Northwestern University and has also served in teaching and research roles in the UK and the U.S.
📝 His scholarship includes important work on Vietnamese anticommunism, Vietnamese American conservatism, diaspora, memory, and refugee politics. He is also currently completing his book manuscript, Diasporic Legacies: The Making and Remaking of Vietnamese Anticommunism.
🌏 Beyond the classroom, Dr. Nguyen serves on the Board of Directors for the US-Vietnam Research Center and supports Vietnamese American nonprofit organizations through consulting and grant writing.

Meet Dr. Lacanlale, Department Chair and Associate Professor in Asian Pacific Studies at CSUDH.
An ethnomusicologist with a PhD from UCLA, Dr. Lacanlale’s work explores race and ethnicity, transnationalism, postcolonialism, popular culture, Asian Americans, Filipino Americans, and the Philippines. She is also a performer with the Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble and has been recognized with awards for both teaching and research.
Courses taught include Asian Americans and the Media and Introduction to Asian American Studies.
We are proud to spotlight her scholarship, teaching, and commitment to students.
