Governor Newsom Unveils Bold Vision for Biggest Expansion of State Parks in Decades, Adding Three New State Parks and Thousands of Acres to Existing Parks 04/23/2026

Are you excited about public history? The State of California is developing three new state parks. Historians will be excited to note that one of them includes what remains of the government camps built to house Okie migrant workers in Kern County. This is the farm workers' camp featured in the Grapes of Wrath.

We’re hiring! Join our education team and advance Densho’s mission to share the history of Japanese American WWII incarceration in order to promote justice and equity today!

We’re hiring two Teacher Fellows and one Education & Public Programs intern.
About the Teacher Fellowship: Densho is seeking two K-12 educators in Texas to serve as Densho Teacher Fellows to support the development of curricula and resources to teach about Japanese American wartime incarceration. This position is a remote position, but they must teach in Texas. During the summer, one Densho Teacher Fellow will focus on providing a teacher’s lens on curriculum development about Crystal City Internment Camp, ensuring materials are classroom ready. The other Densho Teacher Fellow will review and give feedback on Densho’s education framework, as well as curated primary source collections, and help translate Densho’s resources into educational materials for K-12 educators.

About the Education & Public Programs Internship: Densho is seeking one Seattle-based hybrid intern who is either a current or recent graduate student in education, history, ethnic studies, or a related field, with experience teaching and/or working with K-12 students. The intern will be supporting projects in education and public programs, developing educational resources, and assisting with public programs. There is a requirement to work at Densho’s office in Seattle, and to support in-person events in and around the Seattle area, which includes occasional evening and weekend work.

Applications for both positions are due by May 1st. Learn more about these positions on our website.
