Hello,
If I may take a moment to tell you how I have worked with the school systems & their faculty.
In this journey of life & raising our kids we have worked with both school Systems, Carroll & Kuemper.
At one time our kids attended Kuemper. Although Kuemper is & was a great School System & Community with many attributes. They just don't have the extra supports for students with specialized needs. However, Christian his Senior, year ran for Kuemper's Cross Country Team. He also swam with Kuemper students his Freshmen & Sophomore years. We have had 2 kids, as well, take classes at the Ag building with Kuemper students. Too, our daughter on the Dance Team worked to put on a Spring Show with Kuemper. The teams also cheered each other on at State Dance Competitions. It's great that these 2 school systems can collaborate together to bring all these specialized classes & clubs, like FFA to our students.
It is because of our oldest's learning difficulties we switched school systems. Carroll Simply had more of a support system in place for students that need specialized help in different aspects of life. Like their set up for IEPs & 504s. Leading us to switch & send all our kids to Carroll. It's just easier to have them all in one school system.
I know what its like to have a child or 2 with an IEP or 504. As our oldest had many struggles through school. Having had a learning disability myself. I understood the obstacles one has to maneuver. The key ingredient that got her through was working & forging a united front with the School. Working together to help her navigate school & to graduate with her class. An accomplishment on all of our efforts. Carroll Community schools along with my wife & myself & our support system, worked diligently to ensure she graduated on time.
They demenstrated these same efforts with our one son whom, as a baby, had hearing issues, the first couple of years of his life. This lead us to AEA & early education programs. He started school when he was just 3 years old. He has had many IEPs, mainly for speech all his life. Again, the school was exemplary when our other son became very ill & was in the hospital for a length of time. Which has led us down the path of an unknown road.
Carroll Schools stepped up their game & supports were put in place along the way. Forging a support system like no other. My wife & I have continued to work with the school. Through all of these trial & errors. Finding what works best. I look forward to continuing this same correlation with Carroll Community School District.
Now I am running for Board to ensure these same support systems stays available to parents. Working with parents instead of against.
AND to ensure all kids' legal protections are upheld against Bullying in Schools.
I am an advocate to stop the Bullying that happens in our local school systems. Am 100% for non-tolerance policies. It's a sad fact that kids with learning & thinking differences are more likely to be bullied at school than other kids. ALL students deserve to attend our schools hassle free. With a sense of security & stability.
Thank you for your time!
