One common myth about schedules is that they create rigidity because everything has to stay the same. In reality, schedules can be a powerful tool for helping individuals navigate changes throughout their day, ultimately supporting greater flexibility. Our TEACCH trainers in Japan are highlighting a few simple ways to build flexibility into a student’s picture schedule:

How to make a change
How to add an activity
How to skip an activity

Flexibility is not the absence of structure - it’s something that we can intentionally teach within structure!

In Japan, May 5th is Children’s Day. This is a time to celebrate the happiness, growth, and individuality of every child. Traditionally marked with colorful carp streamers (koinobori) swimming in the wind, it symbolizes strength, courage, and the hope that children will grow up healthy and resilient. During our 5-day training, our party was in honor of Children’s Day and each of our students contributed to decorating the carp.

Here at TEACCH, we agree that every child deserves to be celebrated, valued, and supported.
