TIME CHANGED TO 8-10am!

Attention Seawell families! 💙🛝🎉

Let's celebrate an amazing school year together! Join Seawell staff, students, and families on Friday, June 12, from 8-10:00 am at Umstead Park for a fun end-of-year.

We'll have popsicles, music, games, and time to connect and celebrate all that we've accomplished this year. Families are encouraged to stop by, enjoy the fun, and kick off summer with the Seahawk community. Please be sure all students are accompanied by an adult.

See you there!

🏳️‍🌈 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵: Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board Proclamation in Honor of LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH

Whereas, the core values of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools include providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students and staff, and supporting collaboration with diverse communities and families; and

Whereas, CHCCS celebrates the accomplishments of le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, non-binary, and intersex people and recognizes that LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June; and

Whereas, Pride Month honors the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan and celebrates the many contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals, including transgender and q***r people; and

Whereas, CHCCS recognizes that LGBTQ+ people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, multi-language learners, and economically disadvantaged people experience intersectional oppression and need recognition and validation of all aspects of their identities; and

Whereas, CHCCS recognizes that the current wave of anti-LGBTQ+ state and federal legislation contributes to harassment, creates a climate of intolerance, and can make it challenging for students to learn and thrive; and

Whereas, CHCCS is committed to maintaining our values of respect and inclusion for all, including our LGBTQ+ students, families, and staff;

Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools District proclaims the month of June to be LGBTQ+ Pride Month and will honor and highlight the identities and contributions of CHCCS LGBTQ+ students, staff, and families.

Another joyful & productive class visit to the Critter Corner. 🐓 🐐 🦆 🐰 As the school year ends, Seahawk Sal remembers friends who used to be afraid to participate…but they faced their fears and gained confidence! Way to SOAR 🌟

As we approach this week’s closure decision, Seawell PTA remains hopeful and firm in our belief that Seawell should stay open.

To everyone who has continued showing up for our students, staff, and community: your advocacy, support, and care for one another matter.

Seawell Strong & Together 💙

As CHCCS considers closing an elementary school, it's important for the community to understand who Seawell serves and who would be affected.

Seawell serves the highest percentage of multilingual learners, the highest percentage of students with disabilities, and a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students. Seawell is also one of the most racially diverse school communities in the study.

Taken together, these data show that Seawell’s possible closure would disrupt a community with significant overlapping support needs.

We hope the BOE and administration fully recognizes who Seawell serves, who would bear the burden of closure, and what this community stands to lose.
