And another in the works.

Haven't shared in a while. I've been so busy in the studio! My newest project is a commission by city of Carmel IN for 17 asst large glass mosaic butterflies 🦋. The Community is invited to help during the Chip In Mosaic event in Experience Carmel's Arts & Design District . July 13 and August 10.
Here is a bit of my process. Play with tesserae to get a design idea, paint the to- scale design on craft paper. Cover with see- thru mesh. Adhere tesserae with a tad of exterior glue. Then when all done, the mosaic will be embedded in thinset mortar onto Wedi board and finally grouted in black.

Got openings this weekend for the 3D Picassiette Workshop

Play-Doh ! Making some little 3D glass flowers. The Play- Doh supports the petals until the silicone cures. These are samples for my students this weekend in our Picassiette 3D mosaic workshop. It's all about creating that dimension!

Progression.
Tricky tessellation on the curvey face.
Taped it off and did Black grout on the outside. Then taped again and did yellow grout for the face. Tedious grout session . But yellow for the face was absolutely the right choice.
7/8 " vit glass
An old sheet of yellow Spectrum glass
Silver mirror
Clay substrate sealed and primed
GE advance silicone
Laticrete permacolor grout

Nipping 48 petal shapes from 7/8" square glass tiles. Using a plastic storage box as a "shard mess trapper". 🌞
Now on to mosaic-ing the sun face.
