I spent a long time compulsively checking and reacting to my symptoms. Every doctor visit gave me relief that wore off within hours. Then I was right back to scanning my body and googling for reassurance. The fear felt real, so I kept reacting like it was real.
What took me forever to see is that the reacting was the problem. My nervous system had gotten sensitized and was reading normal sensations as threats. Every time I panicked and went looking for answers, I confirmed the danger. I was training the alarm to stay on without realizing it.
Things changed when I stopped trying to fix and check and control everything. I let the sensations be there and went on living my life. That is what finally taught my nervous system it was safe again.
Knowing this is not the same as actually doing it. It is hard to do alone when the fear is overwhelming. My course is the step by step for the person ready to climb out of the loop. Soft Regulation Desensitize is linked in my bio.
