Lisane Basquiat Legacy Healing Strategist with 20+ years in corporate leadership. Founder, Shaping Freedom® Lisane loves to officiate new beginnings.

I teach how inherited patterns shape behavior and how recognition creates intentional legacies. Lisane Basquiat has spent her life observing what happens when we talk our way out of rapport with our own voice and choose to settle, instead, and speak ourselves into feigning satisfaction with meeting external demands as a way of life. “We have inside of us everything that we could ever imagine to get us to where we want to go. With that we have 100% personal accountability to design, take responsibility for, and to get into the driver’s seat of our own unique life experience. Its not only possible and something we should be talking ourselves INTO; it is how we honor our time here.” Lisane is, ultimately, a facilitator of discussions about life and about showing up. Lisane is a former corporate executive with expertise in business transformation, organizational change management, and organizational effectiveness. In 2008, Lisane co-founded Transition Haven – an organization that specializes in teaching individuals first how to disentangle and ultimately how to create and live a lifestyle that is in personal alignment. Transition Haven programs and retreats provide busy and hardworking adults a platform from which to hit the pause button, to gain clarity and awareness, and the guidance to remember who they are and what they want in their personal and professional lives. Lisane is a Certified Professional Coach (iPEC graduate), an Accredited Energy Leadership Coach, and Board Certified by the Association of Integrative Psychology in three modalities - as a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a Master Practitioner of Mental and Emotional Release® (MER) Therapy, and of Hypnotherapy. She is also a Reiki practitioner, a certified Advanced Theta Healer, and an ordained Minister.. Her overall mission and approach is to facilitate the process of helping adult humans achieve their personal and professional best. Lisane loves the serenity of mountains, water, fresh air, open space, and sunshine. She enjoys her life in both San Diego, CA and in the Tri-State area and believes she has the best of both worlds. When off the road, she spends her time writing, seeking adventures, eating great food, reading, making the best use of her time here, and connecting to herself and other humans. You didn't choose the patterns you grew up with. But are you aware of the ones you're repeating?

The way you respond to conflict. The way you communicate when you're hurt. The way you give love, receive love, or protect yourself from it.

Some of these behaviors didn't begin with you.

They were learned in the families you grew up in, shaped by the experiences you had, and reinforced by what you witnessed.

And because they became familiar, you may have never questioned them.

Until you started recognizing the same patterns in your relationships, your parenting, or even the way you treat yourself.

**Understanding where a pattern came from isn't about assigning blame. It's about recognizing what you've been carrying.**

What remains unseen often repeats.

And awareness gives you the opportunity to make a different choice.

**What is one behavior you recognize in yourself that you also witnessed growing up?**

**Do you really need to know someone's entire story before offering them help? ❤️**

Sometimes we get so caught up in wanting to understand what someone is going through that we forget the most important thing: simply showing up.

In this powerful conversation on *Shaping Freedom*, Jevan and Elm Marie Smith reflect on a difficult season in their lives when unexpected kindness made all the difference.

Lisane Basquiat shares a simple but meaningful reminder:

**“You don't have to know the whole story. If you can help, help.”**

Not everyone is comfortable sharing their struggles. Not everyone wants to explain their pain. And sometimes, the people who need help the most are the ones who never ask.

Compassion doesn't always require an explanation.

Sometimes it just requires action.

❤️ **Have you ever received help from someone who didn't know what you were going through?**

We'd love to hear your story in the comments.

**You can love your family and still choose to break the patterns that hurt you.** ❤️

Read that again.

Loving your family doesn't mean you have to repeat everything you inherited.

You can honor where you came from without carrying every painful pattern into your future.

You can forgive someone and still establish boundaries.

You can love someone deeply and still choose a different path.

**Breaking generational cycles isn't about rejecting your family. It's about deciding what ends with you.**

Sometimes the greatest act of love is choosing not to pass the pain forward.

💬 **LET'S TALK:** What's one family pattern you made a conscious decision to break?

👇 Share your thoughts in the comments. Your story might help someone else begin their healing journey.

What if you've been ready to take the next step in your career or business longer than you realized?

Sometimes the biggest surprise isn't the opportunity itself. It's discovering that you were capable of doing something you once questioned.

In this moment from Shaping Freedom®, the speaker reflects on the decision to move forward, the importance of preparation, and the realization that they could build something of their own.

The message for the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders: preparation matters, but so does recognizing the value of what you're building and the culture surrounding it.

ARE WE TEACHING PEOPLE TO WORK HARDER INSTEAD OF WORKING SMARTER?
For generations, we've been told that hard work eventually gets noticed.
But opportunities aren't always distributed based on effort alone.
Relationships, access, and personal branding often influence who gets ahead.
This conversation challenges the idea that people should simply wait for someone to recognize their talent.
Do you believe hard work is enough to succeed today?
👇 Let's discuss.

KJ Rose got booed at the Apollo.

And for a moment, that rejection could have become the story she carried forward.

Instead, she asked herself a much bigger question:

Why would I let people who don’t know me decide what I do with the rest of my life?

That’s the shift.

Other people’s reactions can become data without becoming direction.

You can be disappointed.
You can be embarrassed.
You can even question yourself for a moment.

But you do not have to hand over the future of your life to people who were never meant to define it.

What opinion have you been giving too much power to?

**Failure Is When You Lock People Out**

Sometimes failure isn’t about getting the outcome wrong.

Sometimes it happens much earlier — when the people affected by a decision are never allowed into the process.

When we assume we already know what someone needs, what they feel, or what is best for them, we can unintentionally shut down the very conversation that could have changed the outcome.

Accountability requires more than good intentions.

It requires listening.

It requires making room for another person’s experience — especially when their experience is different from the story we’ve been telling ourselves.

**Who have you unintentionally locked out of the process?**

Have you ever been so focused on changing someone in your family that you stopped looking at yourself?

“I'm gonna fix you. I'm gonna fix you. I'm gonna fix you. Don't. No. Work on you.”

We can spend years wanting someone else to listen, respond differently, or recognize a pattern.

But we also have choices to make: how we show up, what we repeat, and what we decide to leave behind.

In this Shaping Freedom moment, I share why doing our own work can create room for something different within our families.

What’s one thing you could do differently—even if nobody else changes first?
