Happy Pi Day to all those who celebrate! Pi (or better yet π) is the ratio between a circle's circumference and its diameter. It is an irrational number, but we approximate it as 3.14, and thus March 14 is our day to celebrate this important mathematical constant.

To celebrate in the St. Lawrence style, join us Wednesday, March 18 2026 for our not-quite-annual πathlon in the PQRC lounge. There will be pie, π, games, circle drawing, prizes, and more!

Twenty-eight female students from our high school had the opportunity to attend the “Math and Everything” event at St. Lawrence University!

The day kicked off with a warm welcome from SLU math professors and an engaging keynote on artificial intelligence. Students then selected three out of twenty 30-minute sessions exploring math in unexpected places—some favorites included “Math & Magic,” “Math & Psychology,” “Math & The New York Times,” and “Math & Sports.”

Lunch was generously provided at Dana Dining Hall, and the day wrapped up with an inspiring Q&A session featuring female math alumni who shared their journeys and advice.

It was a fantastic day of learning, exploration, and connection—thank you to SLU for hosting such a meaningful event!

A few weekends ago, St. Lawrence hosted the 2025 Mathematical Association of America’s Seaway Section Conference!

We had an amazing time seeing all of the speakers, presentations, and student posters. Attendees came from all across New York state and Canada. Activities included sharing our love of math, exploring multi-dimensional pool, learning about algebraic justice, and more!

Thank you to all of the professors, students, and coordinators who made this weekend possible! Special thanks to Dan Look, Patti Lock, and AJ Dykstra for coordinating the schedule of events and our student volunteers.
