Aggregating Anemones are one of the coolest creatures we find in the tide pools at Haystack Rock, and one of the most overlooked. These animals are amazing, and oftentimes easy to step on. Remember to always watch where you’re stepping while navigating tide pools, there could be hundreds of animals where you never thought to look 🌊

Unfortunately things like this do happen. And when the helicopter which was in protected air space comes this close to our National Wildlife Refuge and flushes all of the nesting birds off of Haystack Rock it becomes an issue. This is an especially vulnerable time with fledgling and soon to fledge birds including our beloved Puffin. Sadly it’s not just helicopters it’s also planes, drones and even kites that can impact our sensitive nesting area. We have over 7 types of birds who use Haystack Rock as a nesting area. Please share and spread the word to pilots, drone operators and those who fly kites.

Take a moment and enjoy the view with us. We have had quite a few spectacular sunrises and sunsets this week. And we love how you can see the moon set as the sun comes up from behind us.

Even our birds are not used to the heat. Today should be our last hot day for the time being. Have you ever wondered how animals cope with warm temps? We have an adult Cormorant with chicks and they are regulating the heat as best they can.
