When most people use AI tools like ChatGPT, they ask them to create something. It might be a social media post, an email or a blog article. But one of AI's most valuable (and often overlooked) roles is acting as a reviewer.

Think of AI as a second set of eyes. Before you publish your next newsletter, itinerary or marketing campaign, ask AI to critique it. You might try prompts like, "What questions would a first-time visitor still have after reading this?" or "How could this be more engaging for families planning a vacation?" You can even ask, "What's missing?" or "Would this persuade someone to visit our destination?"

This approach can help uncover gaps, improve clarity, and strengthen messaging before it reaches your audience. While AI won't replace your local expertise or judgment, it can provide helpful feedback that makes your work even stronger.

If you've been using tools like ChatGPT to help write content, brainstorm ideas, or summarize information, you've already experienced the first wave of AI. The next wave is something called AI agents, and while the term sounds futuristic, it's actually easier to understand than you might think.

Think of today's AI tools as talented assistants waiting for instructions. You ask a question, and they respond. AI agents take things a step further. Instead of completing just one task at a time, agents can work through a series of tasks on your behalf, make decisions along the way, and continue working toward a goal with less back-and-forth from you.

For example, rather than asking AI to help draft an itinerary, an agent could research attractions, compare options, create a draft itinerary, suggest marketing copy to promote it, and even identify potential audience segments, all as part of a connected workflow.

The good news? You don't need to become an AI expert overnight. Most AI agents are being designed to feel familiar and accessible. If you've used ChatGPT, you're already building the skills needed to work with them. The biggest shift is learning to think less about asking for a single answer and more about giving AI a goal to accomplish.

Agents could eventually help you with research, content creation, reporting, visitor communications, market analysis, and countless other tasks. While the technology is still evolving, one thing is becoming clear: AI agents aren't replacing human expertise—they're becoming powerful partners that can help us work smarter and focus more time on creativity, strategy, and relationship-building.

As AI continues to evolve, agents are likely to become one of the most important developments to watch. The best way to prepare is simple: keep experimenting, stay curious, and start exploring the new agent features becoming available in the tools you already use.

According to Expedia's Unpack '26 travel trends report, set-jetting continues to gain momentum, with film and television inspiring everything from destination discovery to trip planning.

But the trend is evolving. Today's travelers want more than a photo at a famous filming location. They're looking for immersive experiences that let them feel like part of the story.

That might include experiences like wandering a charming small town reminiscent of a favorite series, dining where iconic scenes were filmed, or discovering the landscapes that brought a blockbuster to life. For tourism organizations, the opportunity extends well beyond places with Hollywood credentials. Every destination has stories that can be brought to life through compelling experiences and creative storytelling.

Here are a few ways to harness the set-jetting trend:

- Turn locations into experiences. Create self-guided or guided itineraries that connect filming locations with local restaurants, accommodations, attractions, and hidden gems.

- Lead with the story. Even without a major production, frame your destination through cinematic storytelling, local legends, or the unique narratives that make a place memorable.

- Build themed itineraries. Curate experiences inspired by genres—romance, mystery, history, adventure—or seasonal themes that invite visitors to become part of the narrative.

- Partner with local attractions. Museums, theatres, historic sites, and cultural organizations can collaborate to create immersive experiences that feel worthy of the big screen.

- Help visitors create their own scenes. Encourage user-generated content with photo locations, "movie moment" itineraries, or short-form video challenges that inspire travelers to share their own story.

As travelers increasingly seek experiences that make them feel like the main character, the destinations that succeed will be the ones that transform sightseeing into storytelling, inviting visitors to experience a place not just as spectators, but as part of the narrative.

A strong public relations strategy isn't built on a single tactic. It's built on a mindset.

Some opportunities are planned months in advance through strategic outreach and relationship building. Others appear unexpectedly – a journalist needs a source, a story begins trending, or a partner reaches out with an opportunity. Knowing how to balance both is what separates a good PR program from a great one.

Advocacy isn't just about influencing policy—it's about building relationships that strengthen communities.

In this special Community Conversation, I’m joined by Patrick Kaler, Tony Snell-Rodriguez, Steven Coyle, and Hillarie Logan-Dechene to explore how tourism professionals can become stronger advocates through collaboration, storytelling, and authentic partnerships.

Our discussion highlights why the most effective advocacy often begins long before legislation is on the table. It starts by listening, building trust, and helping residents, business leaders, and elected officials understand tourism's impact on local economies, quality of life, and community well-being.

If you're looking for practical ideas on strengthening partnerships, communicating tourism's value, and creating lasting community support, this conversation is for you.
