Mrs. Cornell's Crazy Busy Art Room

Mrs. Cornell's Crazy Busy Art Room Cameron Elementary School K-6 Art I see my K-6 students one day a week for 45 minutes. I teach multiple sections of the same grade level.

Each grade level is exposed to multiple art medias. Some of the medias we use are: chalk, oil pastels, pencil, tempera paint, watercolor paint, clay, ridgid wrap and so much more! I try to make sure that each grade is exposed to 2D and 3D projects. Art history and art technique are huge components to my art lessons. I find that students at love hearing a story linked to their project.

Congratulations to Sarah Cornell, Cameron Area School District, for being recognized as the Wisconsin Art Education Association August 2026 Art Teacher of the Month!

Sarah Cornell has a gift for helping students discover the joy of creating art. As the K–6 art teacher in the Cameron Area School District, she introduces students to a wide range of artistic techniques, mediums, and art history while encouraging them to develop confidence in their own creativity. Her classroom is a place where students feel inspired to take risks, express themselves, and take pride in their work.

Sarah's passion for art reaches far beyond the school day. She leads a popular after-school art club for middle school students, giving young artists even more opportunities to explore their talents. She also organizes local Youth Art Month activities at a local college, helping celebrate the importance of art education throughout the community.

Her commitment to the arts extends outside the classroom as well. Sarah's own artwork has been featured at a local theater, and she has helped students showcase their artwork on community banners in a neighboring town, allowing them to experience the pride of seeing their creativity displayed publicly.

Whether she's introducing a new technique, encouraging a hesitant artist, or creating opportunities for students to shine, Sarah's enthusiasm is evident in everything she does. She has built a program where students feel valued, inspired, and excited to create, making her a truly deserving choice for Art Teacher of the Month.

I’ve been getting word that some of my Cameron student artists have submitted work into the Barron County Fair and have earned ribbons on their creations. As your teacher this makes me realize even more the pride, care and effort you placed within your artwork and that what I teach is also important to you. I am so proud of you! Way to go Comet artists!

I hope you are enjoying summer with family and friends. Keep looking and talking about the art you see around you! Keep being inspired! ❤️

Creativity in Action at Cameron Elementary!

We’re celebrating Cameron Elementary School art teacher Sara Cornell, recipient of a Wisconsin Northwest Heritage Passage Art Teacher Grant!

This grant will bring KWIK STIX Solid Tempera Paints into the classroom — giving young artists a vibrant, easy to use medium to explore color, texture, and movement.

One of the first projects will help kindergarten students learn about how artists use color order, rhythm, and implied texture to create energy and emotion in their work. These new materials will spark imagination across grade levels, encouraging students to experiment and express themselves boldly.

Congratulations to Cameron Elementary for expanding creative opportunities and supporting hands on art experiences for every student!

Summer school is off to an exciting, messy, and busy start in the art room. Students are learning about author and illustrator Eric Carle. On the first day of summer school, students created various colors of paste paper. On Tuesday, we created our first paste paper collage, a trout. Job well done artists!
