Today, let's talk about the importance of community service. And no, volunteering is not just something to throw on an application at the last minute. 😊

Colleges and scholarship committees want to see students who are engaged, compassionate, dependable, and willing to pour back into their communities. Community service helps show leadership, initiative, teamwork, and character — all things that matter beyond grades and test scores.

Start early and keep track of those hours because Auntie does not want anyone scrambling senior year trying to remember what they did in 10th grade. 😭

Most importantly, community service reminds us that success is not just about what we achieve for ourselves, but how we help others along the way. 💫

This week’s Auntie ScholarTip: Know how scholarship awards might affect your overall financial aid package.

Scholarship displacement happens when a college reduces a student’s institutional aid after outside scholarships are awarded. In other words, a scholarship intended to help a student financially may sometimes replace existing aid instead of lowering out-of-pocket costs.

That’s why students and parents need to ask questions, review financial aid packages carefully, and understand how outside scholarships are applied at each institution.

And listen… don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself 😌📄
You worked hard for those scholarships, so make sure you understand how they’re being applied and what the real bottom line will be.
