On July 20th our family opened our home and hearts to a precious little human. The nights have been typically sleepless but we have had the privilege of comforting cries, much skin to skin contact to regulate temperature and heart rate, watching almost 2lbs of weight gain, and catching glimpses of tiny smiles. What a joy it's been to have a baby in our house again.

Acknowledging that Foster Care always involves grief and heartbreak we feel privileged to have built a safe nest for this little bird to land and grow while his Mom and Dad do some big work. ❤️

Oh sweet baby girl. Your Mama is amazing. When it was clear that her original plan wasn't the best path, she pivoted with grace and beauty, always keeping the goal in mind. She swayed and prayed, clung to your Dad and her faith, and with tremendous joy pushed you into our world. Every birth is beautiful but VBACs hold a special place in my heart. ❤️

Welcome to the world, little one.

It's always challenging when labor involves a long, slow on-ramp but your Mom took it in stride. She advocated strongly for her well researched and firmly held beliefs and your Dad passionately stood by her side. Every decision was discussed and intentional. If your stubbornness matches that of your parents, the toddler years are going to be a wild ride but law might be in your future. You chose really great parents.

June was a wild and crazy month in my home. My oldest daughter graduated from high school and friends and family flew in to join us for a week of joyful and bittersweet celebrations. My youngest daughter celebrated a milestone birthday and, in typical fashion, celebrated in a big and beautiful way. I ended up with an illness that flattened me and found myself so wildly grateful for antibiotics as well as the wonderful friendship and doula camaraderie of

In the midst of it all, life continued. Bellies grew. Bloody show appeared. Surges came. Waters broke. Dads supported. Grandmothers baked. Friends brought snacks. Moms swayed and breathed. Pets alternately came close and hid under beds. Plans were made and plans changed. And over the course of this month, four tiny new humans entered our world. ❤️

Welcome to the world little one! You chose a delightfully loud, boisterous, super chill family to be a part of. Your Mom is so strong - convinced that she could no longer “do this” mere moments before she roared you out of her body. We are so glad you're here….and once your siblings wake up they will be overjoyed to meet you!!

Welcome to the world, little man. Your Mom did so much work prenatally to overcome fear and anxiety, your Dad so wildly supportive of her emotional process. Your Mom and I exchanged countless texts and had a myriad of conversations about the options and, yet, your birth unfolded in a perfectly magnificent and uneventful way. Your Mom imagined birthing in the water and barely made it from the bed to the tub before you let us know that you were ready to be in her arms. Your Dad stared in awe. We are so glad you’re here.

Little man, your name is a Russian word meaning “strength” and I am convinced you were named after your Mom. Her grit and tenacity throughout her complex pregnancy was extraordinary. Her deep faith was unwavering. Her desire to decipher all the research and delve into the studies though occasionally irritating to her care providers led to one of the most peaceful births I have had the privilege to bear witness to. You were born into an amazing family and your siblings overjoyed to meet you.

18 years ago today I was, in every way, “great with child.”

41 weeks pregnant, I was so ready to meet my baby!! The birth tub was set up, the house clean, the baby clothes washed and sorted, my parents on stand-by for childcare….

The day was warm (for Maine) and as I walked into the back yard with my two toddlers we peeped the first purple crocuses of the season. “Today is the perfect day to have a baby” I told them. And, indeed, it was.

This little girl entered our world into my Mom’s hands under the watchful eye of our beloved midwife as my Dad scrubbed the kitchen floor, and our boys slept in the next room.

It was both completely ordinary and wildly extraordinary….and our lives were forever changed.

1. Waldo County is closing their OB unit. As of April 1st all births will be transferred to PenBay
2. Prenatal, postpartum, and lactation visits will continue to happen at Waldo Hospital but clients will need to go to PenBay for their birth
3. The CNMs from Waldo are going to be merged in the staff at PenBay so instead of a rotation of 4 or 5, you will now have 9 CNMs.
4. The midwives will continue to take first call with the OBs called in when needed.

Please let me know if you have additional questions!
