Last semester, Kerry had the opportunity to collaborate with Biogen & MIT Sloan’s Healthcare Lab. The team was tasked with promoting health equity in underrepresented populations. Together, they decided to focus on decreasing the time to ensure early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.

A huge congrats to our students: Hannah, Kate and Jonathan for winning the Audience Choice Award at this years MIT 100K. They pitched Moshion which is an IOT system for wheelchair users and bedridden people which helps to prevent pressure ulcers.

FASTER THAN A SNAIL:
On September 12, the student-led group, MIT Hyperloop III will be presenting a machine learning-augmented drilling technology at Elon Musk’s ‘Not-A-Boring’ competition to be held in the Mojave Desert. The competition is sponsored by Musk’s The Boring Company, which he founded to pursue hyperloop technology. MIT Hyperloop III was selected as one of twelve groups, the “Digging Dozen,” to participate in the competition out of an applicant pool of over 400 teams.

Current 2nd year, Liane Yue is a 2021 Summer Fellow with the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, working with the Office of Food Access to expand public outreach about safety net programs and resources (such as SNAP, HIP, and Double-Up Bucks) to increase their enrollment and utilization.
One of the ideas Liane is exploring is an informational chatbot that helps connect residents to all resources under the OFA umbrella through text message.

Our IDM student Allie Harris is honored to be serving as a Civic Digital Fellow with Coding it Forward. This summer she is working with the Census Open Innovation Lab (COIL) at the US Census Bureau. Allie is focused on advancing open innovation in the government and applying human-centered design to solve pressing issues impacting the public through COIL’s flagship program, The Opportunity Project (TOP). Taking lessons learned in IDM, Allie is using empathy and user research to build an innovative community and scale TOP across the government. Congrats Allie!! 🥳
