Have a great first day of school!

As our students begin a new school year, let’s help them start strong by making attendance a priority. Every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Remember: 2 out of 3 Dorchester County students who miss more than one day of school each month are reading below grade level.

Parents and caregivers, your support makes a difference. Let’s get our children to school on time, every day ready to learn!

📖 Read More. Grow More.

From comic books to chapter books to bedtime stories, every book has the power to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Just 20 minutes of reading each day can make a lasting difference in a child's future.

Let's build stronger readers—one page at a time.

A story today... a brighter tomorrow! 📚👶

Reading to your baby is one of the simplest and most powerful gifts you can give. Even before they can talk, they're listening, learning, and growing with every page you turn.

💜 It's never too early to start reading to your bundle of joy!

We have another shout out going out today, this time to Dorchester County Campaign For Grade-Level Reading led by YMCA of the Chesapeake in Cambridge, MD. One of their biggest supporters, Laura Cowin, (pictured here with community lead, Bryant Whittington, gathered much needed volunteers to help with their literacy initiatives. She hosted a screening of the movie "Sentenced" at her church which brought critical community awareness about the importance of literacy. Many volunteers generated by Laura devote time and energy to “Read with Me” and “Read to Succeed” programs coordinated with coalition partner, United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore. She was even formally acknowledged and recognized as their community’s CGLR “Star of the Year”!

🌟 We are so proud of the growth our students made this year!

Our students worked hard, our teachers never gave up, and our families supported learning every step of the way. Because of that teamwork, we saw exciting growth in both reading and math across our school.

The best part? We’re not done yet! We are already planning new ways to help our students learn, grow, and achieve even more next year. We can’t wait to see what our students accomplish as we continue growing greatness together! 🩶❤️💛💜
