Today in the spotlight is Medlinks alumna, Veronica Toro ('16)! She has qualified for the Tokyo Summer Olympics which will be held this summer! She was on Medlinks Exec for 2 years as a community health and a membership coordinator. Besides rowing she went to Stanford Medical School!

Our last highlight this week is Alice Augusta Ball
Ball was born in 1892 in Seattle. She would eventually move to Hawaii and earn graduate degrees from the University of Washington and the College of Hawaii. She became the first female chemistry instructor at the age of 23 at the College of Hawaii. Her greatest achievement would be developing the first injectable leprosy treatment. This treatment allowed for many patients to be discharged and able to return to their families.

Today we will be highlighting William Augustus Hinton.
Hinton was born in Chicago in 1883. He ended up going to Harvard Medical College in 1912 on the Wigglesworth scholarship. He went on after graduating earl6 to work for various public health related labs. In 1936 he published a text book about Syphilis and its treatment. Eventually he became the first black person to be a professor at Harvard!

In honor of the last week of February, Black History Month, we will be highlighting some highly influential Black American Scientists!
Today we will highlight Patricia Era Bath!
Bath was born in 1942 in Harlem, NY. She became interested in science at an early age and would eventually become the first Black female medical professional to earn a medical patent for her Laserphaco Probe, used for catatact treatment.

Random Hall's Medlinks are putting together a ConEd on Tuesday 12/1 at 1pm ET.
The session will be with Iraj Aalaei from EHS, and it will focus on the health concerns of working remotely and what ergonomics will help students stay healthy.
