Comment “Holidays” for a printable holiday-themed BINGO card to take on your own festive math talk walk! ❄️

ALSO does anyone know why holiday decoration companies keep making snowflakes with 8 points and Halloween spiders with 6 legs???

Looking for a hands-on way to help your child practice naming and ordering numerals? Try this fun DIY numeral puzzle! 🧩

🖍️ Decorate a sheet of paper with a drawing or shape collage, then cut it into strips and label the bottom of each with a numeral. Mix them up and challenge your child to use the numerals to complete the puzzle!

Add even more learning with math talk! 💬
“I see an 8, should that go towards the beginning with the smaller numbers or the end with the numbers closer to 10?”
“Nice, you found all the numbers up to 5 - you’re halfway to 10!”
“Should we start with 10 this time and count down from there?”

It was such a privilege to get to work with the amazing education team ! 🎨

My workshop focused on how the art in their collections could act as a jumping-off point for hands-on math learning. We worked together to design games and activities that they can do with the (almost 20,000!!!) students that visit the museum each year and I was so inspired by their creativity!

Here are a few ways we connected art and math:
🎲 Rolling dice to determine how many tangram blocks you can use to re-create a piece of art, to explore geometry and representational/abstract art
🥤Using colored straws to recreate artwork, which sparked great conversations about counting, ratios, and proportions as the number of straws changed
🔢 Exploring how we might re-design numeral symbols to represent the deeper concept of each number

Regardless of your past experiences with math, you have the power to break the cycle and help your child build their math skills and confidence through play. You might even find that your own relationship with math improves along the way. 🌈✨
