Reflections from a D&D-inspired Creative Learning Workshop at Richland Library Ballentine On May 28th, 2024, PLIX’s Ada joined longtime PLIX Ambassador Melissa Sprenne, and Makerspace Facilitator, to co-facilitate a creative STEAM learning professional development workshop at Richland Library Ballentine in Irmo, South Carolina, for library staff of the Richland Library System.

How might we play with data that is personally meaningful to us? In this blogpost, Ada shares her experience designing PLIX Data Gems, her past adventures in informal data science education, and her gratitude for the many people who inspired this activity.

Mining for Data Gems What data is meaningful to you? Do you track your heart rate, the number of steps you take, the hours you slept, or how much water you drink in a day? Or do you ponder over what you like to do with your friends and family, or how the weather or geopolitical environment affect your mood?

We've been mining our creative brains to bring you a new activity, DataGems! And we’re looking for a play test group to try out the ideas. Apply for our June Play Cafe for a play test kit, and explore data science thinking with beads, string, and bullet journaling.
