The 10-ENG planning form will be updated in July 2022. If your planning form is complete and signed off already, do not worry. If you haven't started yet, please wait for the new form. If you have started but haven't completed yours yet, please review the new form once it comes out, it contains a couple of important differences that you can apply to yours. Fortunately, it makes it easier to fulfill unit requirements, so do not fret.
MIT Course X - UG Officer
Timely announcements from the UG Officer of Course 10
This 6-unit "baby ICE" course, Integrated Chemical Engineering Topics II, which is very popular with juniors and seniors, and helpful to have offered in IAP, appeared earlier as not being offered this academic year. BUT: things have been worked out so that Prof Drake will again teach this fabulous course.
Clarifying guidance:
If you are willing to manage the conflict and keep up with 5.310 recorded lectures (they will be recorded), then by all means feel free to sign up for 5.310 in the Fall. Otherwise, plan to take 5.310 in the spring.
Thank you Professor Furst for recording the lectures and providing this flexibility.
welcome aboard!
On behalf of the department, welcome you to Course X. Glad to have you with us, and good luck with finals!
Here's a preview of some required ChemE items that will come up through the summer and into next Fall semester.
- Your academic advisor
Adrienne Bruno of the Student Office will send you the available advisors, with some guidance. You will submit preferences before July 1st. The Student Office will then assign your advisor.
- Registration
Around Reg Day in Sept, all together you will be introduced to advisors and other Department people, as well as fellow students. Your advisor will be in touch separately to arrange for completion of your registration
- Pre-registration for the fall semester
You must pre-register by June 16. As a guideline, try to complete 10.10, 5.601, and 18.03 in the fall term, to be ready for 10.213 and 10.301 in the spring. (5.601 conflicts with 7.012, but 7.015 is available for the BIO GIR.) If you have finished these subjects, consider:
• Course X: 5.12 or advanced chemistry electives, or 5.310
• Course XB: 5.07, 5.12, 7.03, 7.002 (pre-requisite to 7.003)
• Course X-ENG: selections from the Foundational Concepts category. 5.12 is generally useful.

- Getting acquainted
Chemical Engineering is primarily located in the Landau Building on Ames Street. The Student Office is 66-366, and I will be in 66-368; we are always happy to in person or by Zoom.
Best of luck finishing up freshman year and have a wonderful summer!
Dear ChemE students welcome to the UG Officer page! Here you'll find relevant announcements of broad interest to the student population in ChemE. I'll try and reference posts with the target class, unless it should be of interest to all UGs.
