I never drive to or from work without thinking about my parents. I am booked & busy with softball lessons thanks to them. They sacrificed a lot of time & money to help me advance in my softball career which led me to where I am now. 🩵
My parents and I talk openly about my softball career. My mom recently mentioned, “the best thing you can help your students and their families with is perspective.” It’s easy to lose perspective in high level softball where the pressure is always high. 🏆
I cried at a few lessons with Alanna Overholt - because I was just so hard on myself. She understood - she helped me work through it. My Dad and I argued in the back yard during pitching sessions when I couldn’t get something right. I wanted to quit pitching when things really didn’t go my way. I questioned all the time if I was even a good softball player. 💔
Softball was a roller coaster of emotions as all sports can be. The emotion of softball is what makes it incredible, but so difficult at the same time. ❤️🩹
I would feel on top of the world - striking people out, making A level travel teams I never dreamed of playing for, & eventually earning a college scholarship to pitch. 🥇
Then during down times - I would walk runs in, get cut from teams, & couldn’t hold back tears during the car ride home because I was so beyond frustrated with my performance. 😩
Perspective is key. Regardless of if you win the championship, or can’t find the strike zone that day - softball is still just a game. 🥎
My parents and I now say - sometimes we took it all a little too serious. Don’t get me wrong - we love winning and working hard. But keeping perspective that softball is a GAME at every level. From rec ball to college softball - it’s a GAME. ⭐️
To my softball students - don’t forget to thank your parents for providing you with opportunities in the game of softball. Every time they bring you to a lesson - they are trying to help you be the best you can be in the sport you love. 🙏🏼
To my softball parents - keep perspective. I know you want to see her success & be the best she can be - to chase those BIG DREAMS. The most important thing is that your daughter enjoys & loves the game. ❤️
