HALFWAY THERE! 💛🏃‍♀️

I'm at 50% of my $500 Girls on the Run Greater Connecticut SoleMates fundraising goal, and I've got just a few more days to close the gap!

Here's why every dollar matters:

👟 Just $35 puts a new pair of running shoes on a girl who needs them.

💛 $175 gives a girl a full season of confidence-building, friendship, movement and learning she can do hard things.

🎉 $500 provides curriculum and supplies for an ENTIRE team of girls!

As a coach, I know the impact sports can have on a young girl's confidence, resilience and sense of belonging. Every girl deserves that opportunity.

👀 Who's in for $35 to help a girl find her strong?

DAY 9 | Sagres

44 miles | 2,000 ft

This is why I train. ❤️

Not just for watts, pace, PRs or finish lines.

I train because being strong and fit gives me the ability to say YES to experiences like this.

Nine riding days. Nearly 400 miles across Portugal. Castles. Cork forests. Vineyards. Tiny villages. Hard climbs. The Atlantic. Tired legs. A lot of laughs. And today, one final ride to Sagres at the southwestern tip of Europe. 🇵🇹

So, final half marathon taper assessment:

Did I stop running? Yes.
Did I rest my legs? Absolutely not. 😂
Would I trade this adventure for a textbook taper? Not a chance.

Sometimes being an athlete isn’t about optimizing every performance.

Sometimes it’s about using the fitness you worked so hard to build to go do something unforgettable.

Now I just have to remind my legs how to run. 🏃‍♀️😂

DAY 6 | Évora Loop

39 miles | 1,500 ft

Six days in, and today was a good reminder that not every ride needs to be the hardest ride. 🚴‍♀️🇵🇹

After several big days, we had 39 miles of rolling terrain around Évora, including a stop at a cork factory to learn how one of Portugal’s most iconic natural products goes from tree to everything from flooring to fashion.

As an athlete, I love the bigger days and hard climbs. As a coach, I also know that being able to back them up means respecting the easier ones.

Move. Explore. Let the legs recover.

Then get ready to do it all again tomorrow. 😏

And honestly, that’s becoming one of my favorite things about traveling by bike: you don’t just see a place. You get to experience it one pedal stroke at a time.

DAY 5 | Évora

41 miles | 1,900 ft

Halfway through my very unconventional “taper.” 😏

By Day 5 of a multi-day endurance adventure, fitness is only part of the equation.

Fueling matters. Hydration matters. Recovery matters. Pacing matters. And listening to your body REALLY matters.

Today we crossed more of the Alentejo’s rolling plains, stopped to see the traditional pottery workshops of São Pedro do Corval and finished in Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city.

The legs definitely know we’ve been riding.

Fortunately, Portugal keeps giving them very good reasons to get back on the bike. 🇵🇹

Train. Fuel. Recover. Explore. Repeat.

DAY 4 | Monsaraz

36 miles | 2,000 ft

Sometimes you have to earn the view. 🇵🇹

Today that meant fast miles through the rolling Alentejo, past olive groves and castle villages, followed by the climb into ancient hilltop Monsaraz.

And THAT is one of the things I love about endurance sports.

You learn that when something gets hard, you don’t necessarily need to go faster. Sometimes you just settle in, keep moving and trust that you’ll get there.

Today “there” came with views across Alqueva Lake and all the way into Spain.

Worth every pedal stroke. ❤️🚴‍♀️
