The 2023 shift from "suggested" to "mandatory" NFPA 70B maintenance is old news.

By now, most of you have an Electrical Maintenance Program (EMP) in place.

But here’s the reality in 2026... Having a program isn't enough anymore. The benchmark has moved.

The NFPA 70B 2026 update is pushing us into the next frontier. Here is what's changing:

1. Continuous Thermal Monitoring (CTM): Periodic infrared scans are being supplemented or replaced by 24/7 temperature sensors. Real-time health is the new standard.

2. OT Cybersecurity: Your maintenance program now "shall" address cybersecurity risks for industrial control systems and microgrids.

3. The 5-Year Audit: For those who formalized their EMP in 2023, your mandatory 5-year audit is approaching. Is your documentation defensible, or is it a mess of scattered spreadsheets?
