The Russell Farm Art Center is a rustic and very picturesque slice of Texas, located on a gentle hillside, surrounded by beautifully landscaped terrain.

The original farmhouse, along with its barns and other restored farm buildings are all nestled within stands of native Texas Oaks and Mesquites; and surrounded by a variety of livestock and wildlife.

SCBWI-NT community, we are excited to announce the theme of our 2026 retreat: 📖👨‍🎨Create a Book in a Day.

Join us on June 20th! Spend the day with fellow creatives writing and illustrating on a rustic and picturesque hillside surrounded by beautifully landscaped terrain.

This one-day, hands-on experience is open to SCBWI North Texas members as well as anyone curious about storytelling and the creative process, including teachers, artists, writers, and creatives from all backgrounds.

Whether you write picture books, novels, poetry, or classroom curriculum, you’ll explore how to generate ideas from the world around you, create memorable characters, strengthen plot structure, and think visually about storytelling in a collaborative environment.

If you have been looking for an opportunity to focus on your creativity, in an inspiring setting this is the retreat for you!

Join us every other month for a meet up at a local independent bookstore. Whether you want to browse around the bookstore, bring a piece to work on/book to read, or participate in an ongoing event, it's up to you!
