Day of Impact: The Junior Experience🏙️
The Class of 2027 spent the day engaging with local government representatives, which was a special experience that brought classroom learning to life. The Junior class spent the day engaging in meaningful civic learning through visits to Los Angeles City Hall and Burbank City Hall, where students met with a variety of elected and county officials. They connected with staff from the offices of County Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Lindsey Horvath, Mayor Karen Bass, Councilmembers Konstantine Anthony and Chris Rizzotti, and Mayor Tamala Takahashi, gaining firsthand insight into how local government operates. Students had the opportunity to speak about issues and topics they are passionate about, sharing their perspectives on community needs, youth engagement, and public service. A highlight of the visit was a special meet‑up with Providence alum Kenneth Mejia, who currently serves as the Los Angeles City Controller. Mejia welcomed the group, led them on a tour of City Hall, and offered valuable insight into his work overseeing the city’s financial transparency and accountability. He also shared stories from his time at Providence, encouraging students to stay curious, engaged, and confident in the impact they can make. His presence made the experience especially meaningful, showing students a real example of a Pioneer making a difference in public service.
